What Makes It Awesome

It's time again to enjoy the best of world cinema . The 24th Kolkata International Film Festival is coming back next week and we are already chalking out our movie plans. Starting on November 10, the festival will kick off with our forever fave film 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne'. Celebrating 100 years of Bengali cinema, you can also catch films of other Bengali film legends like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak at the fest.

This year's theme is Australia and prominent film personalities like Australian director Philip Noyce (of 'The Bone Collector' and 'Patriot Games' fame), Iranian director Majid Majidi (known for his celebrated 'Children of Heaven', and more recently 'Beyond the Clouds') will attend it.

Nandan, Nazrul Tirtha, Rabindra Sadan, Star and others aside, Mother's Wax Museum will also screen films for the first time.
The films to watch out for are Egyptian film 'Yommedine' (was nominated for Palme d'Or, Cannes), Turkish film Sibel (screened at TIFF and won several awards in the Locarno Film Festival), 'La Negrada' (explores the tiny Afro-Mexican community in Mexico), Edurado Nunes' 'Unicornio', Bengali films 'Tarikh' and 'Rananubandha' (these made it to the international films category) besides others.
