What Makes It Awesome

Not only does a vintage lamp prove that a grown-up lives in an apartment, one single lampshade can transform your room. The name of the shop is the same as the owner’s — B (Miyaz) Karim. He manufactures, sells and supplies lamps. Karimbhai doesn’t stick to a price — he has a flexible and informal pricing strategy, depending on who’s asking. The selection here ranges from minimally modern pieces to elaborate, expressive, and even some rather artsy illumination.

In the evenings, you can spot the shop from miles away in the middle of the crowded pavement opposite New Market. The colourful lampshades that smolder in a spectrum of shades look warm and welcoming. The very Middle-Eastern shades in multi-colored mosaic really stand out. They go for anywhere from INR 650 to 1,600, depending on the size. The Moroccan lasercut lamps are another bog draw — the big ones are for INR 2,500 and medium ones go for INR 1,600.

The store is well-stocked and can satisfy nearly every imaginable style. We loved the charming table lamp dressed in a vintage-style fabric (INR 650) — it will add a retro and romantic touch to your room. The  standing shades wrapped in cotton prints were earthy, priced between INR 350 (fittings extra) to INR 1,200, depending on size. You can also pick up a wooden or ceramic stand separately and mix and match lampshades from Karim (from INR 1,700 onwards).

Pro-Tip

You can get a custom-made lampshade if you give him a design and fabric — it would cost nearly the same and will be finished in a week. The store accepts only Paytm or cash.
