    Editors posted on 13 November

Go on walks and hikes, take in a local dance, meditate in monasteries, or just relax with a glass of plum wines at this place run by a Bhutia family in Sikkim.

    What Is It?

Eshab home stay, run by a Bhutia {tribe} family, is a heritage conservation and litter-free home stay located in a quiet and natural ambience. They have a small library, and standard facilities like hot water, television, and attached bathroom. The food here, sourced from their organic farm, is traditional and local. You must try their homemade plum wines!

    Why Should I Go?

Because of its location and views — it’s in Sribadam, a village surrounded by forests at an altitude of 1,821m above sea level in the western part of Sikkim under the Rinchenpong constituency. Keeping you company will be lush green forests, rivers, waterfalls and monasteries.

The word “Sribdam” comes from “Siribatam” —  meaning open space or flat land in the Limboo dialect.

    What Can I Do There?

If you want to take off, you can visit Darjeeling {42km away} or Telling {35km away}. You can also trek to the Varsey Rhododendron Wildlife Sanctuary and Singalila National Park from here.

You can take in some culture. Sribadam is also known for the Phurpa Thordo Puja and the Cham Dance {a mask dance} festival that takes place in December.

You can visit the monastery and meditate, as the monastery is renowned for meditational practices.

You can also go cycling on the surrounding mountains and forest areas, visit traditional Bhutia, Limbo, Lepcha and Nepali houses in the villages. The Sribadam ground is a valley that makes it ideal for flying kites.

    How Do I Get There?

Take a train to NJP or Siliguri or a flight to Bagdogra. From these places, you can reach via two routes. One is through Darjeeling- Jorethang-Soreng to Sribadam, the second one is via Melli-Jorethang- Soreng to Sribadam.
