Traditional baked goods and Nahoum’s go hand in hand. The pre-Independence New Market bakery does a range of Easter eggs {solid chocolate as well as hollow ones that are filled with marzipan treats}. Nahoum’s also does a traditional Hot Cross Bun: an individually portioned loaf of freshly baked bread, slightly sweeter than regular bread, with bits of dried fruit added to the dough, traditionally eaten on Easter Sunday.

You can also poke around in the back of the market {next to the shops selling party decorations}, where there are a row of old-school bakeries selling Kolkata-style cream rolls and classic patties, which also have cheaper Easter treats around this time.
