India's Oldest Chinatown Walk

What's Happening

Do you know which city has the oldest Chinatown in the world outside the sphere of Chinese cultural influence in Southeast Asia? Our lovely city of joy - Kolkata. The Chinese community from several villages in South China started arriving and settling in Calcutta, a thriving colonial capital, since the late 1770s and started calling it their home. That's how we have a thriving Chinatown in the heart of the city, making the city culturally and ethnically more rich.

We're sure most of you must be aware of the old Chinese lanes in the city for their scrumptious food stalls (or even CNY celebrations). If not, then sign up for this tour to discover the hidden gem of our city. You will get a chance to explore what remains of the Old Chinatown of Kolkata which includes visiting Chinese temples, learning about the culture and traditions unique to the Kolkata Chinese, and a delicious Chinese lunch at Sei Vui restaurant (housed inside a remodeled dormitory for Chinese migrants).

Local guides and experts Dr. Tathagata Neogi and Chelsea McGill will be leading the tour.
