It’s Pride Month this June, time to break away from gender prejudices. The American Centre in Kolkata has organised a film fest to celebrate Pride all through the month.
Celebrate Pride Month With This Film Fest At The American Centre
16 Jun 2018 - 30 Jun 2018
Since the Stonewall Riots in NYC in June 1969 (read here to know more), June has been observed as the Pride Month across the world. One of the few institutions in our city who are celebrating Pride this June is the American Centre (AMC) with a Pride-themed film fest.
Running through the entire month of June, they will showcase LGBTQ movies every Saturday of the month. The award-winning movie Milk (based on the life of politician and gay rights activist Harvey Milk) had kicked off the fest, and the upcoming movies lined up for the coming Saturdays are The Kids Are All Right, Far From Heaven and But I’m A Cheerleader. All the films are scheduled to be showcased in the consulate from 4pm onwards. Check here for more details.
The American Centre is also hosting a workshop on June 18 to raise awareness about the rights of queers, to support inclusions and to address issues faced by the LGBTQ community. On June 25, another seminar will be held that will explore the history of the LGBTQ movement in the US and its impact on similar movements in India.
