What Makes It Awesome
One thing that any Bengali woman or girl desires is to have a good collection of sarees in her wardrobe. Silk House, established in 1935, is one of the oldest saree houses in North Kolkata. From fancy sarees to smooth silk ones, this shop can offer you a collection worth visiting the store.
Hidden by the innumerable tarpaulin covers of roadside hawkers, you cannot humanly find this store until you come across it accidentally. While you take the footpath opposite the Hatibagan Bazaar Kolkata, after a walking a few hundred metres you will find Silk House. Even though it is quite popular among the north Kolkata residents who visit Hatibagan for shopping on a regular basis, you might find this as a delightful discovery.
Buy the Banarasai silk sarees starting from INR 2,000 if you have a wedding to attend. The sarees go up to INR 25,000. If you want to go for the traditional handwoven ones, check out their taant collection. We especially liked the ikat printed ones and they start from just INR 400. Talk about being affordable!
If you want to buy sarees of a higher range, explore their collection of dhakai, muslin and pashminas. Or what about the arni silk for one of the softest fabrics available, or opara silk and kanjivaram to boost your glam quotient? We loved a certain pink silk saree with a rich golden border, and looks nothing short of elegant.
