FabIndia's First Experience Centre Is Here And We Can't Keep Calm
Retail therapy done online, said no one ever! It’s no therapy if at least half hour isn’t spent in a store flitting between different sections and trial rooms, and finally lugging a horde of bags to home. Veteran homegrown label Fabindia, like an old hand doc, seems to have a fine understanding of our retail therapy needs because their newly launched Experience Centre in Kolkata is here to make shopping into an exciting affair and more.
What Makes It Awesome
Late, but never too late, earlier this month Kolkata finally got its first Fabindia Experience Centre, following Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. Located on Loudon Street (the stretch of road that connects Park Street to Minto Park), you could easily miss this for a stately white mansion sitting in the shadows of tall green trees. The prim exterior facade belies the inner splendour that transports you immediately to an old Bengal colonial house with its green lourve arches, wide windows and the fantastic floor to ceiling stained-glass topped wooden doors. The setting is as much an experience as are the other things that remain to be experienced.
Spread out across 10,000 sq.ft, this humongous store has everything from your favourite Fabindia products to a kids’ zone, a wellness centre, a beautiful cafe and an interior design studio. What catches fancy at the get go are the beautiful indigenous art (Kantha to Waril and Madhubani) that adorns the spacious walls and ingeniously complements our fave Fabindia’s earthy wears. We’re also loving the addition of the Alteration Studio - no rushed trips to the tailor to snip off those too-long palazzo pants. Winning!
Another stunner is the interior design section that is spread out like an airy elegant room in a sizeable hall, stocked with a wide variety of gorgeous furnishings, contemporary wooden furniture and some vintage-finished home accents.
A promised stop for holistic experiential shopping, the Wellness Centre has all sorts of Organic India products – tea to pulses and other cereals. Adjacent to it is the Fab Café where you can have a quick bite to recharge yourself. And, if your tiny tots are still not appeased with food, then leave them at Tugbug children’s play centre that sits on the same floor, where they can do some artwork to keep busy.
