Did you know that the Great Trigonometrical Survey is the longest measurement of the Earth’s surface to have ever been attempted? They scaled the Indian subcontinent from 1800 to 1854 and built 75 feet brick towers all around Bengal to map the Bengal landscape. These towers are still there, but you or I probably don’t know much about them. Travel blogger and photographer Rangan Datta (check out his blog here), fascinated with the towers, scoured all of Bengal to find the last-standing ones.
On May 13 from 4pm at Terminal 11, he will present his stories from the GTS towers in association with Heritage Walks Calcutta (HWC) Small talks.
