What Makes It Awesome

Did you know that pollution exists more in our homes than outside? Yes. It's true. But you can fight this pollution inside your house with plants from Urban Baggiya, a nursery in New Town, that grows and sells various plant species in the city.

Pragya, the owner, runs it through her house itself. You enter her flat and it's like a riot of plants of different kinds - indoor, outdoor and bedroom plants that act as air purifiers and oxygen generators. In fact, not just the house but also the corridor outside the house as well as the entrance and reception area of the tower she stays in are dotted with different kinds of plants and flower pots.

Pragya grows different kinds of plants - money plant, aloe vera, snake plant, spider, rubber plants, cactus, fern, ficus, lemongrass, wheat grass, Thai grass, oregano, giloh, peepal, diphantia, tulsi, pudina to name a few. She also grows several varieties of the Aglonemia (lipstick and pick to name a couple), bonsai and cactus plant species as well as several herbal ones.

Best part? There's no waste generated at all. She practices the zero waste idea and converts all the waste in her house into compost while all the plastic in the house have been converted to pots for the plants. You can actually use leaves from a lot of these plants to add flavour to your tea and make healthy juices.

Pragya also grows a few veggies and fruits herself. Notice the brinjal, papaya, guava and chillies on the window sills in the house. Cool, right?

Prices start at INR 50.

Pro-Tip

The plants are quite easy to maintain too. You need to water them just about once or twice a week and keep them away from direct sunlight.
