What Makes It Awesome

A three-hour drive from NJP station or Bagdogra airport, Cosy Nook Homestay is nestled in the quiet hamlet of Takdah Tinchuley in Darjeeling district. The view from here takes in the valley below and snow-clad mountains around. This erstwhile British cantonment area got its name from the three mountains whose tops look like ovens during sunrise. It's a quiet place, located among forests laden with the invigorating scent of pine and will remind you of many of those Enid Blyton books you read in your childhood.

On clear days. go for a walk to Gombadara where you get awesome views of Mt.Kanchenjunga and Mt Pandim. If the air is sharp. you can even see Sikkim on the other side! Or visit the Visit the Tinchuley Monastery where a Lama had meditated for 17 long years. If you are into adventure sports, there are a few joints offering para gliding, trekking, and hiking. Ask the people at the homestay.

They serve a variety of food - including local dishes, Bengali and Chinese. The rooms are quite affordable - INR 1,500 for doubles. You pay INR 500 per day for food (from bed tea to dinner and evening snacks).

What Could Be Better

The decor in the rooms do not match the surroundings. The shiny curtains and garish blankets could put you off a bit.

Pro-Tip

Stack up on the books you've been meaning to read, bring along munchies. Check out the tea gardens and orange orchards (like Green Lawns, an organic farm and orchard). And the famous Rangli Rangliot Tea Estate is here as well.
