Watch out for the book truck, peeps! Walking BookFairs is finally coming to Kolkata with their pan India tour 'Poems On Road', and they are making a pit stop at the Oxford Subcription Company bookstore.
When Odisha-based bibliophiles, Akshay Routray and Satabdi Mishra, noticed the lack of bookstores or libraries in farflung areas during one of their trips together, they decided to do something about it. They started carrying books in backpacks while travelling. Supported by friends, they soon bought a second-hand omni van and there began their venture, Walking BookFairs (in January 2014) to promote books and a reading habit.
With Satabdi at the wheel, the couple has already covered several cities across India with their new tour, where they meet poetry enthusiasts who are eager to share poems over an open mic. The pair is arriving in Kolkata on February 13 and will be hosting the open mic at the Oxford Subscription Company. Don't wait, we have already signed up. There will be certificates given to each participant. Also, a small talk will be organised where Satabdi and Mayura Misra (of Oxford Subscription) will talks about the importance of bookstores.
