India’s First Craft Gin Is Soon Coming To Mumbai And It Will Be Super Affordable

Did you know that India is credited with the origin of a classic cocktail; the Gin & Tonic? Although the cocktail was invented by the British as a way to curb the onset of malaria in India, it made for a delicious mix after merging with sugar, lime, and water.

It’s a sad fact that Gin holds only 1% influence on India’s spirit market. Anand Virmani and Vaibhav Singh, who are the names behind Nao Spirit, have taken their love for gin to another level by giving India its first affordable, local craft gin.

After two years of efforts, Anand and Vaibhav came up with a remarkable recipe using angelica root, chamomile, coriander seeds, fennel, ginger, juniper, lemongrass, orange peel, and orris root. ‘Greater Than’ is the only London dry gin made in India. With a clean juniper and fresh lemon peel on the nose, this gin has a zing of ginger on the finish.

As told to Homegrown, a lot of distilleries didn’t support their small production and hence, Anand and Vaibhav learnt to make gin from the scratch in a small copper pot. With the help of London’s Bermondsey Distillery, they mastered the art of gin making and came up with their very own craft gin.

Both the creators firmly believe that gin should be India’s national drink. Greater Than is now available all across Goa and parts of Bangalore and will be soon coming to Delhi and Bombay. Follow their Facebook and Instagram for more info.
