A New Play Asks The Tough Questions About Rape And Punishment

Bhavika posted on 20 September

What Is It?

Extremities is a psychological drama about a woman who is attacked by a would-be rapist in her home. This is the depiction of a scenario feared by most today. In this play, the protagonist {played by Dilshad Patel} manages to tie up her assailant {enacted by Shiv Patil}, and is then drawn into psychological torment by the opinions of two other women, her flatmates {played by Anoushka Gonsalves and Emeara Kambla respectively}, who each have different points of view about rape in society. The situation soon appears as though a courtroom in one's home.

Who Is It For?

We think this play is for everyone. For men, women. For people who’ve questioned rape and crime against women, and for those who have wondered what the lines are that cross consent on to crime.

Why Should I Go?

This gripping play, screenwritten by William Mastrosimone in the US, has been a massive success. Dreamscope Theatre has been producing it successfully for the past six years in Bengaluru and it has now come to Mumbai. Directed by Dhanlaxmi Goyal, this play will make you really look into the face of the issues we all try so hard not think about.
