The cultural capital of the country has a lot to offer, right from kitschy events that have become a staple, to the latest trends that define the spirit of Mumbai – it just caters to every artistic whim one can think of. To that end, we’ve compiled a list of some awe-inspiring cultural events that you gotta mark on your calendars.

Kala Ghoda Festival

This 9-day festival, celebrated in the beginning of every year, is now synonymous with the city of Mumbai. Celebrating a variety of art forms like music, dance, theatre, drama, art, photography, etc., it hosts a number of seminars, lectures and workshops along with literary discussions and even book launches. The film section pays tribute to famous contributors in their field. Mainly being an art festival, it showcases artists from across the country with their wares and gives us an important lesson on the vast range of products that are made in our country. Tata Lit Live

Held every October and November, Tata Literature Live will enter its ninth year and is held across multiple venues in the city.  The 2017 edition witnessed over 150 authors from across the world, representing 17 countries. The hub of all activity is the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA).

Comic Con

Pop culture aficionados have a reason to celebrate every winter now, thanks to this haven that they call home for a full weekend. The very first Comic Con was held in Delhi in 2011 and since then, there’s no looking back. This year saw special guests Nick Seluk {Of The Awkward Yeti fame}, David Lloyd {V for Vendetta}, and Andrew Griffith {Transformers comic series} to name a few. But, what really gets things going {yes, apart from the awesome merch that’s on display} is the cosplay, and boy is it fantastic!

So, pop culture fanatics, get a chance to bring all your favourite characters back to life and make friends for life.

Lil Flea, Mumbai

Over the course of two-three days, Mumbai is home to this festival that screams bohemian shopping and good vibes. Started off by Alankar Jain and Priyanka Punjabi in 2014 to build and solidify relations with the communities of fashion, food, music and NGOs, the Lil Flea is Mumbai’s fanciest flea market. With superbly lit tents, pop up shops, fusion foods, live bands and even movie screenings, this festival promises to keep you thoroughly amused for its duration.

BNHS Flamingo Festival

The Bombay Natural History Society hosts a festival every year for all nature and bird lovers, which celebrates the annual migration of the flamingoes to our city. Get a chance to participate in a number of activities and quizzes and also improve your knowledge on the migratory birds that you can spot in and around the city.
