For this time of uncertainty and stress, we think you might as well make the best of the time you’ve got at home. If you’re healthy, away from the risk of infection, and honestly just killing time… Breathe new life into the hobbies you’ve neglected over the years, or pick up new ones!

The internet will be your saviour, with most of these. Here goes.

Food Therapy ( Cooking And Baking)

Spending time in the kitchen can make some people miserable but hey, there are a whole bunch of us who thrive on this therapeutic sesh, playing with ingredients for new dishes. The best part is that there are so many online courses available that we can consume, learn and finally make our own creations with - it's like magic. And, if you have a herb garden (woot woot!), you can pick fresh ingredients and make this really fun. Share your creations on the 'gram. Try something new every day with locally sourced ingredients. It's fun. It's cheap. It's fulfilling.

Confused what to cook? We're here at your rescue. Here are a bunch of super easy recipes.

DIY & Upcycling

We’re all surrounded by piles and piles of stuff at home that is of little to no use to any of us. So while you could use this time to pull a Marie Kondo and get rid of things that don’t spark joy, you could also get a little experimental. Instead of throwing them away, create new products out of them. Turn glass bottles into lamps, paint a broken mug and convert it into a pot.

This is a great way to reduce the amount of waste you generate, and a fun way to get those creative juices running!

DIYs we tried at home and LOVED!

Crochet & Needle Work

Skills like crochet really test your patience, your ability to do things meticulously and neatly, and your ability to follow through with what you’ve started! While crochet seems fairly easy, it’s a time-consuming art that needs you to painstakingly work on every project for a long, long time. But that doesn’t mean the results aren’t worth it!

Look for inspo to create coasters, throws, blankets, table mats and ponchos.

Gardening

The city life space-crunch is no reason to deprive yourself of indulging your green thumb! Get some mitti from your building’s garden, and plant chillies, curry leaves, lemongrass and basil. They’re easy to grow, and you’ll never have to spend on them again. For the time being, you can definitely use old disposable containers to plant your little experiments. Graduate to earthen pots once they’ve grown considerably!

Pull Out That Keyboard/Guitar

The skeletons in our closets include old instruments we’ve purchased, but barely ever played. Use this time to learn basic chords, tunes and just get the hang of the instrument again. Dust off that six-string, and get inspired by the world of tutorials on YouTube.

Take Courses

We don’t really mean CV-enhancing courses… Although that would be pretty great, too. Coursera and Skillshare are chock full of vocational courses, but also basic courses on financial management, investing and more. If you’ve always been a bit of a noob when it comes to adulting, now’s the time to read up and leave the noob days behind you.

Learn A New Language (A Little)

Ah, to be young, and have the random urge to learn some Espanol. There was a time when we had all the time in the world to join the neighbourhood French/Spanish class, and walk out with a certificate at the end of a rigorous 2/3/6 months.

While we’re not asking you to kill time on Duolingo, we think you could definitely learn how to ask for directions, order a meal, and tell the time in another language.

Here's a list of websites where you can learn a new language for free.

Watch Online Documentaries

There are a heckload of documentaries that are available online for your viewing pleasure. We'd do a deep-dive into historical ones, but you can take your pick with whatever you fancy - nature, the universe, people, food, travel, beautiful houses, I mean, the list goes on! Or hey, what about watching your favourite actor/musician's autobiography?

Hands Down. These are the best documentaries streaming online right now!

Find New Music

There's so much new music out, and you don't even need to check out new stuff, there's just so much music out there in general that you should check out. With so many genres that you can check out, see what kind of music interests you, find similar music, find newer themes, go crazy. YouTube, Spotify or Amazon Music! Check 'em out and make your unique playlist already.

Confused? This might boil down the options and help.

Open A Book Of Your Choice

Probably one of the best ways to exercise your mind, reading is one hobby that's pretty versatile. Get lost in fantasy, hit up a sci-fi favourite if that's your thing, fluff pieces, the news, autobiographies - there are just too many options.

If you're looking at one list to get you going, check this out.

Creative Writing / Journaling / Blogging

You've written on reams of paper throughout school and college but stopped when you graduated. Now, it comes out only when you have a little time to spare. But hey, there are some perks when it comes to staying at home, and now, you can get back to this wonderful therapy immediately. Do you have a message you want to spread to the world? Blogging is a great way to get it out there. Or, go old school, pick a note book and write down some poetry, a story, bullet points on how your day went - it's a blank canvas, y'all.

Painting & Art

Most of us are basically hibernating Monets. But that doesn’t mean you’ve got to paint masterpieces from the get-go. Painting is therapeutic, calming and a great stress-buster. It’s a great way to kill time, and it really is something you can go on doing for hours on end.

Whether traditional painting is your jam or not, easy variations like Fluid Art are great family activities for those who haven’t dabbled in colour, too! There are tutorials available online on different styles. All you got to do is check 'em out.

Stay Fit, Your Way

Exercising is a great hobby (we know that!) and also a great habit to fall into. It will get you into better physical and mental shape than by sinking into the couch while snacking.

You don’t need a gym membership, honestly. All you gotta do is head to our fitness tab and pick.
