Jayati posted on 10 March

Ten-Second Takeaway

It’s that time of the year again when with spring comes the blooming colourful flowers and it’s getting warmer and brighter. It’s also the time of year when we celebrate a crazy festival of colours, Holi, unabashedly and rightly so. As sweets are to Diwali, thandai is to Holi and we’ve rounded up the places in Mumbai to score your sweet- milky treat of a thandai.

Khane Khas, Bandra

The evergreen must-go-to-during-Holi restaurant in Bandra serves its epic thandai every year since 1989. If that’s not enough to pull you in, go there for their famous thandai that is brewed a night before the D-day.

Available for takeaway, the thandai here is made in the authentic way by grinding the malwa, adding it to milk along with a host of other ingredients like saffron et al. Packaged in a bottle, one can take away the thandai on the day itself.

Price: INR 200 per litre

Vibe Liquiteria

The organic and no-dairy juice bar in Bandra is celebrating its first ever Holi this year and its leaving no stones turned. Shaan Mayal, the owner, tells us they will be doing a healthy, dairy and sugar-free thandai. Though the traditional thandai is brewed with milk, they’ll be instead using nutmilk which is light and fresh.
The traditional recipe also gets a fun twist with ingredients like cashews, almonds, peppercorns, saffron and special addition of rose petals to give a very different taste to the thandai.

#LBBTip: Vibe birdy tells us additional ‘holy’ Holi ingredients can be added on request and ahem ahem we’re keeping it shush.
