This Ganesh Chaturthi gorge on these unique mithai cupcakes that combine Indian festivities with Western sugar highs perfectly.

What’s It About?

Steamed or fried modaks {essentially made using flour, coconut and jaggery} have had variants such as chocolate, pistachio, nutella, coffee and so on.  But now, for the very first time, we’re told that Star Anise Patisserie will have modak cupcakes- the best way to recreate a combination of mithai and modern desserts. These cupcakes are topped with coconut cream and jaggery, whereas the filling is freshly grated coconut cooked with jaggery and brown sugar {delicious, we say}.

There will also be other flavours such as gajar halwa cupcake {with orange jelly and vanilla frosting and star anise pod}, banana caramel chocolate cupcake {with chai masala, caramel sauce and butterscotch frosting}, and pineapple cupcake {with bay leaf, pepper and vanilla frosting}.

Priced at INR 550 for a box of 10, we’re told these cupcakes are available only during the festive season, and the patisserie is kind enough to even home deliver them {the delivery areas are Bandra, BKC, Khar, Vile Parle, Santacruz, Kurla West, Ghatkopar, Chembur and Andheri}.

So, We’re Thinking…

This year, give a shot to your traditional mithai with a twist and add another element of fun to all the festive madness.
