Ten-Second Takeaway

Muji, the Japanese retail store of simple household utilities and goods, is opening its doors in Lower Parel on Friday, August 5.

What Is Muji?

Muji can be translated from Japanese to ‘no brand’. They sell minimalistic, label-less and good quality products which don’t have frills and fuss.

If ‘less is more’ is a motto you echo, then Muji is the place to shop at. What can you find here? Simple and well-designed concepts to make life easy from household goods and furniture to stationery to health & beauty. We are looking forward to their most-loved products such as Right Angle Socks, Aroma Diffuser, comfortable Beads Sofa, sleek LED Flashlights, towels with creases you can cut into whatever size you need, and more. Organisation-obsessed ones would find their haven in this huge space with acrylic boxes, desk accessories and storage compartments.

Launch Details

The store opening is going to be accompanied by a Muji exhibition and inauguration ceremony, which will initiate the brand in India. If we can make it to the mall on Friday by 10.45am, we will be witness to a traditional Japanese ceremony with a Wadaiko drums performance, a sake cask breaking ceremony and something called a Kanpai {which is a toast} in the atrium of Palladium. Post this, the store open shop at around 1–1.30pm.

Until then, let’s over-watch this calming video of Muji which does actually make us want to throw away our material possessions, run to the country and live with the songs of the birds and the no-branded ease of Muji.
