It's Happening: First Flight From Navi Mumbai Airport To Take Off In December 2019


As reported by The Hindu here, the work for Navi Mumbai will start by 2019 end. Get ready to fly, New Bombay!

In talks for the past 20 years {since 1997}, the Navi Mumbai Airport will finally see the light of the day. The pre-developmental work for the project would be completed by May next year. Phase one of this project will require the land to be levelled and a hill to be cut to change the course of a river. A terminal and runway will be built by December 2019, and the first flight will take off post that. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the airport in a ceremony. Read the full report by Hindustan Times here.

The airport will be built at Kopar-Panvel and will be an international airport. The airport will be fully-functional by 2021. Also, the new airport will be connected to the old airport via a metro line.

The airport will not only decrease the pressure on the existing airport, it will also add to the city’s infrastructure in a big way. We cannot wait for this to become a reality.
