Do you sometimes wake up dreaming of hot puris with aloo sabzi and chhole? If yes, then make your way to Pancham Puriwala at Fort and eat all that your heart desires.

Chow Down

There are only some eateries that can be called legendary, and this century-old restaurant opposite CST has comfortably placed itself in that list. Its interiors are reminiscent of days gone by, much like its food portions and prices, which haven’t seemed to change much over the decades {two people can eat in INR 200}.

Traditionally, a plate of puri-bhaji will be served with five hot puris and potato curry. Here, they serve three kinds of puris – sada, masala and palak {spinach}. These can be had with either the regular potato bhaji, sukha aloo bhaji, chhole or any other vegetarian accompaniment from the menu.

While the major crowd puller for this place is their puri-bhaji, several diners opt for their wholesome thali which is basically a plate full of assorted dishes served with rotis and dessert {perfect for lunch}. They have four types of thalis – sada, special, deluxe and the Pancham thali {the most expensive one will set you back by INR 130}, so feel free to pick the one that suits your hunger the best.

What you must try with your meal are also their pickled green chillies that are kept on each table. Also, do not miss out on the lassi here, it’s truly delicious {north Indians, are you’ll listening?}. Lastly, be prepared to fight for space because Pancham Puriwala is perennially populated by office-goers, college students and hungry commuters, all of whom who often stop there for quick bites.

So, We’re Saying...

For the most cost-efficient North Indian-style food, there’s no place better than Pancham Puriwala. Go here to be reminded of home.
