Like us, the following people too decided at the start of their year that weight loss won’t come by dreaming on, and hitting that snooze button a billion times. They took control of their minds, and worked their way to their fitness goals, and now we look up to them to give us what we need – equal parts motivation and reality check.
Before & After: Five Mumbai Peeps Who Got Fit In 2016 Reveal Their Secrets
Ten-Second Takeaway
Dionne Claudette
We all know that tagged photos on Facebook tend to show the worst and weirdest of us {at least in comparison to our profile picture} but it was disbelief at recognising herself at one such tagged photo, that made Dionne really look at weight loss in the face, instead of avoiding it. She was a 109 kg in weight back then, and after a complete lifestyle change, has dropped down to 66 kg {she is about 5’9 in height}.
Fitness hack: When she began her workout, she would go to Leena Mogre’s gym in Dadar West and train under trainers Apurva Dasgupta, Dominic Khotian and Mahesh Nair. It would be a mix of weight training, functional training and cycling.
Health hack: She would grab a salad from Bombay Salad Co. when she went out for dinner.
Cheat day: On indulgent days she would have the sushi from Tatame, and order cheesecake from Saltwater Café as a reward for a particularly good workout.
Vinit Dominic
Now 70 kg in weight {and still losing weight}, Vinit once weighed 135 kg, due to a mix of factors such as a medical condition and no motivation to play sport. He started small, not keeping large, intimidating targets and began his regime with the help of an incredibly supportive mother.
Fitness hack: He consulted with a dietician in Bandra, Rashmi Chopra {call her on +919820197376} who helped chart out his diet and health plan. After exercising on his own for several months {first by walking an hour a day, then going on to higher intensity training such as running and skipping}, he now attends Mantra gym in Mulund. The trainer he recommends is Sandeep Patil as he doesn’t rely on equipment and has a thorough understanding of diets, calories and training. Contact Sandeep on 8976417617.
Healthy hack: Jai Hind was his go-to for a healthy dinner. Once there, he would eat the butter garlic prawns, stuffed Bombay Duck and tandoori chicken.
Cheat day: He would have a south Indian dosa for breakfast for an indulgent day.
Apoorva Dutt
As with most, Apoorva’s idea of getting fit started with baby steps: one healthy meal a day. At this time, she was 82 kg, and and she began with eating no junk food for lunch. With time, the ability to pass over fries, and eat right made her lose close to 20 kg. Here’s what she followed.
Fitness hack: She downloaded an app called Fiticket, which is great for those who like to mix their workout around, and try out multiple classes {check out our recommendation here}. She especially recommends the Xtreme Fight Federation MMA classes in Bandra West {call them on +919870512009 to book a class}.
Healthy hack: She would order salads from Paninaro {favouring the feta cheese and chicken salad} as well as the tandoori chicken from Kareem’s in Bandra West.
Cheat day: Apoorva would order in the steamed chicken nuggets from Gostana Café, which are served with a dollop of hummus and a side of toast.
Aneesh Bhasin
Post a rather indulgent trip across Europe and the US, Aneesh realised that he gained rapid weight and decided to shed the kilos through a strict fitness regime. From 80 kgs he dropped down to close to 68 kgs, in only 60 days.
Fitness hack: Trained six times a day {cardio and weight training}, at Gold’s Gym but now prefers Fitness First in Andheri West for its equipment and clean setup.
Health hack: Tandoori chicken from Pratap the Dhaba.
Cheat day: At times drank beer from Woodside Inn or Brewbot and the rare pizza {after having adjusted the other calories for the today}
Tanmay Bhat
If there ever was a massive weight loss story that stole the show, it would be that of the funny guy in the room, AIB’s Tanmay Bhat. He completely overturned his diet, taking to the ketosis diet which is a low carb diet, high on good fats and protein-heavy food – this helped him lost 109 kg {109!} in just over a year.
Fitness regime: Tanmay trained extensively under fitness trainer Ranveer Allahbadia {check out his Instagram account here, and YouTube channel here}, using a combination of power weight-lifting and cardio as their regime.
Health hack: Tanmay used the Keto Diet, and focused on a low-carb, high-protein diet.
Cheat day: An occasional indulgence in Joey’s Pizza and Frisbees Burger.
