What Makes It Awesome

Bangalore's famous, The Permit Room, has set up shop inside Toit at Lower Parel for the past few days and boy it feels like the South Indian culinary gods have blessed Mumbai. I'm not even exaggeratjng, you know. I went to The Permit Room pop up with a very open mind and really empty stomach, because I had just one mission - devour the thali.

If the photos of the thalis were anything to go by, I was already salivating, so without further ado, my friend and I ordered the all meat and seafood thalis. While we were waiting in anticipation for the food, we were served a plate of hot medu vadas with our drinks, and they were the softed, crunchiest ones I've had in long. Now this set the tone for the afternoon and we knew we were in goof hands.

Within 10 minutes our thalis arrived, full of options to choose from. We went for the kill. Focusing on the delicious flavours of South Indian cuisine across the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra, this pop-up has brought to Mumbai the best thalis I've ever eaten. Right from the mango rassam to the stuffed jalapeño, veg chilli cheese toast, the salad, ghee roast and fried fish and meat- everything was just so perfect. Add to that hot appams and a delicious seafood/meat curry, and you've been transported to food heaven.

And just when we thought the food was marvellous, the dessert made an entry and well, killed it. The baked mysore paak and filter coffee mousse were off the hook to say the least.

The best part about this entire experience was that it comes for a really really good price- INR 400 for the veg, INR 450 for the chicken thali, INR 500 for the all meat and INR 600 for the seafood thali. Now isn't that just awesome?

The pop up is ongoing till December 15, so make sure you do not miss it.
