The information in this post might be outdated

Life in the city can sometimes feel like living in a concrete jungle, which is why everyone feels the need to escape from its claws every once in awhile.  And with the summers this year making us feel the heat a tad more than what we like, we cannot think of a better opportunity to pack our bags and head out.

With a host of options in and around Mumbai, all you need is a few free hours, some friends and a sense of adventure so that you flee for the mountains, charming beach towns or nostalgic walks with very less trouble. The best part? These getaways are a great option for those who want to truly explore the hidden gems around our city. Trust us there is no better way to revive yourself than with these trips. Don’t worry about being out & about in the sun, we have you covered on all fronts.

Excited? Let’s start.

Head To Manori For A Beachy Affair

A small fishing village located on Dharavi Bhet, this place is known as ‘mini Goa’ for its Portuguese culture, the beautiful beach and the remnants of Portuguese rule which can still be found here. Don’t want to spend your entire day at the beach? They also have some really pretty and incredible churches and temples that you can check out.

Getting There: Manori is a 15-minute ferry ride from Manori ferry point. The nearest railway stations to reach Manori are Malad and Borivali on the western line.

Don’t Leave Home Without: Everything that will keep you beach safe, like sunscreen, something to drink and of course comfortable footwear.

Head to Pali For An Adventurous Weekend

Between devotees flocking to the Baleshwar Ashtavinayak temple, the mango season and some incredible homestays, Pali makes for a refreshing weekend getaway. Plus, with a host of fun activities like trekking, hikes, walks and swims in the river nearby, this one will revive you, both physically and mentally.

Getting There: A car ride of around two hours, you can get there via the Mumbai Highway and the Khopoli-Pali road.

Don’t Leave Home Without: A comfortable pair of clothes, so that you can wade through the water and climb up those mountains. Also, don’t forget to carry a bottle of 7UP Revive so that you can keep yourself hydrated, even on the most hottest days. This one is your very own #SweatLossRecharge in a bottle.

Head to Kolad For Some River Rafting

Situated on the old Mumbai-Goa highway, and on the banks of Kundalika river, Kolad is an incredible getaway from the city. It offers adventure enthusiasts a chance at river rafting {the only place near Mumbai} and kayaking. Go there for the natural beauty, the river and the great Konkani cuisine on offer.

Getting There: With a total travel time of two hours and 20 minutes, you can opt for a Volvo ride out of the city via the highway and the Khopoli-Pali road.

Don’t Leave Home Without: A change of clothes, flip flops and of course, a water-proof bag for your phones, cameras etc. Pack in a bottle of 7UP Revive as it will help you replenish essential fluids and electrolytes which you lose through sweat, perfect to avoid that feeling of dehydration after a hectic activity in the sun.

Head to Karnala Bird Sanctuary And Nature Park In Panvel For A ‘Wild’ Weekend

Home to over 222 species of birds, this is a great opportunity for city dwellers to watch birds in their natural habitats calling out to each other, amidst a variety of trees and shrubs. If you believe that nature has the power to soothe all your troubles away, this is one trip that you will uplift your spirits in all the right way.

Want to take it up a notch? You can start ascending the mountain towards the Karnala Fort – which is roughly a two-hour trek one way. Built roughly in the 1400s, it was used as observatory by Shivaji’s troops and is a great spot to watch eagles and falcons, especially during nesting season.

Getting there: It is located off the Mumbai-Pune national highway, 12 kms from Panvel, so driving is the best way. You can also take auto from Panvel station.

Don’t Leave Home Without: A camera, sunscreen and a bottle of 7UP Revive as trekking up to the fort is sure to make you sweaty and tired. After all, no one likes to quit midway right?

#LBBTip: While all the above trips are destinations you can visit at any time of the year, don’t forget to make your way to Purushwadi in May for the Fireflies Festival. The sight of fireflies is almost like a scene from Avatar and attending this one would truly make your travel list epic.

Go ahead, pack your bags and get ready for a getaway, complete with some adrenaline and thrill. Also, because your body tends to sweat and tire, when you are in the process of exploring a new place, sip on a bottle of 7UP Revive. Because this is a great way to replenish your body with fluids, essential electrolytes and vitamins, caused by all the travel and summer sun.
