Velas Turtle Festival

What's Happening?

During this time of the year, when a colder climate takes over the Konkan belt area of Maharashtra, a beautiful phenomenon takes place in a quiet village named Velas. Hordes of tiny turtles make their way on to the sandy beach of Velas and lay eggs. During this time, one sees the sight of baby turtles break out of their egg shells and trot into the sea.

These Olive Ridley turtles hatch in multitudes from January to April (the season's almost over so pay a visit soon). You can also witness other turtle species like Other species are the Green Turtle, Hawksbill and the Leatherback.

Treks and Trails India is organising a two day tour to the Velas village. The meeting point would be at Pritam Dhaba in Dadar, following which there would be 3 pick up points including Chembur, Vashi and Kalamboli.

Expect a night journey and an early morning arrival at the Velas Village. Once there, you can visit the beach by 6 AM for turtle sighting. After a quick breakfast, you can explore the Bankot Fort too.

In a nutshell, this two-day tour will have loads of adventure, sight seeing and simply meeting new people. Not a bad weekend plan!

The cost includes travel, food, sightseeing and guide charges, and stay for two days. For an in detail breakup you can check out the registration link.

How’s the venue?
