The Kindle might make you want to read more because you're not disturbing anyone at night by keeping the lights on. But, if you're one who loves holding a book in hand instead of modern technology, we support you a 100 per cent. Head to these book stores in Pune to grab copies of old and new books.

Express Book Service

Express Book Service on East Street in Camp is one of those rare heritage bookstores that has lasted from colonial-era Poona till Pune, as we know it today. Started in the 1940s by current owner Rohit Jerajani’s great-grandfather, this shop played host to an illustrious client roster of important political figures like Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Lokmanya Tilak, and Mohammad Ali Jinnah. You’ll find all authors you'd want to read, from Agatha Christie to V.S. Naipaul, achieves of National Geographic {collector’s items}, cookbooks, travel guides, comic books, leather-bound literary classics, books on gardening, precious gems, fiction, religion, self-help, study reference, business, management, health, hobbies, craft books, manuscripts, magazines, and more. And what you can’t find, Mr. Jerajani can source for you. Read all the juicy deets in our recommendation here.

Pragati Book Centre

Pragati Book Center has been around since 1974, started by Mr. Dinesh Furia as a retail bookshop for academic books. By 1976, Mr. Furia ventured into publishing academic guides and notes written by professors and other academics – which became a hit with students. These ‘guides’ have helped some of us here at LBB study and pass our University exams more than attending our college classes did. Pragati is a trusted name for sourcing textbooks, catalogues, and guides pertaining to subjects across IT, engineering, arts, science, commerce, business, pharmacy, management, and more. They have also ventured into the online space, and you can check out their website. They also have a small selection of books for children, dictionaries, self-help, fiction/non-fiction, etc. A visit to one of their bookstores is never a waste, and we much prefer that to ordering online.

Stall Across SGS Mall

The stall has been around for quite some time and the owner tries to collect various titles. What we loved is that none of the books seems tattered or in a poor condition. It's almost as if you're book shopping from a big bookstore.
You'll find everything from hardcovers to pocket-sized books, first edition prints that are not pirated copies and we spotted some second-hand books as well. Grab copies of 'The art of not giving a fuck' to classics written by Charles Dickens. Who doesn't love a hard-bound copy of classics like David Copperfield and A Christmas Carol? The stall has books across genres. So whether you'd love to pick up a selection of O'Henry's work or Gandhi's autobiography and Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Thousand Years of Solitude, you'll find it at this stall.
There are also latest and old magazine issues to choose from. You can score a copies of Lonely Planet for lovely travel pieces or perhaps, dive into a political opinion with a copy of India Today.
