What Makes It Awesome?

Since I heard of South Lagoon's new branch opened in Baner, I wanted to visit it. I am a big fan of South Indian food and South Lagoon is a perfect place for me. South Lagoon serves food from different regions like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mangalore.

The best part of their food is the spices they use. They use authentic spices from the South. Additionally, they do not use any food colours, they get the colours from their food itself. I was impressed with the open kitchen concept. The kitchen is clean and the food is made in front of us which assures hygiene.

Ambience - it's a small place with bright lights and attractive decor. Loved the South paintings on the wall. Few of them depicts the villages and cultures from the South. They have outdoor and indoor sitting. Indoor, the restaurant is opening its upstairs area too for dine-in soon.

Food - As per the chef's recommendations, I tried an authentic menu.

Melagu Varutha Rasam (Tamil Nadu) - Most basic and essential dish in South Indian menu. The Rasam was perfect in consistency and spices. I didn't know that Rasam has many health benefits too. It's rich in antioxidants.

Ulli Wada (Kerala) - It's Onion pakoda made up of Rice flour. This pakoda was super delicious and crispy.

Kori Ghee Roast (Mangalore)- My favourite starter. This is something one should not miss here. It's a bit spicy. The best chicken starter I can say. I can't stop praising on the spices used here.

Chicken Chettinad (Tamil Nadu) - Chicken Chettinad is a classic Indian recipe, from the cuisine of Chettinad. Chettinad is a region of the Sivaganga district of southern Tamil Nadu state, India. South Lagoon surely serve the best Chicken Chettinad in town. Perfect to have with Roti or Appam.

Alleppey Vegetable Curry (Kerala) - This is mixed vegetable curry. Super healthy and delicious. Good main course options for vegetarian.

Appam and Malabar Paratha - Appam tasted good when you eat it hot. Malabar parathas are good. Appam is basically from Tamil Nadu and Malabar Parathas are from Kerala.

Lemon Rice (Tamil Nadu) - Bored of having same old rice menu like plain rice, jeera rice, biryani, pulao, then do try this one. Superb delicious Rice. The flavour of lemon is too good.

Gulab Jamun - Be cautious, the Gulab jamun served here are going to be hot. It's more like homemade gulab jamuns. Soft and mouth melting.

Coconut Jaggery Pudding - one of the unique dessert. Loved the combination of coconut and jaggery.

Overall - In all, we had a satisfying meal. My South Indian food cravings are surely going to bring me back here. I would appreciate the staff here for working so hard and making an afford to bring a super healthy menu.
