Think Holi, and the only two things that come to mind are gulaal and a glass of yummy thandai. While you can prepare your own version of the drink at home, some of us are just too lazy to make one. For them, here’s a roundup of five best thandais we found in Pune.
Drink Or Eat: The Best Thandai Milkshakes (& Ice Creams) In Pune
Sante Spa Cuisine
When it comes to nutritious, yummy and experimental food, Santé Spa Cuisine in Koregaon Park has never failed to impress us. From black wasabi ice cream to activated charcoal hummus, they’ve got it all covered under one roof. And now, since Holi is right at the corner, we tried their healthy thandai milkshake, blended in ice with fresh milk and saffron, topped with almonds and fennel seeds. Priced at INR 260, order a meal of farm fresh pizza or multigrain khichada to go with the drink.
Located at Seasons Mall in Magarpatta, Khaan Saab is known for its exquisite Mughlai cuisine featuring succulent kebabs, shorba, butter naan, kofta and more. Priced at INR 120, we hear their badaam thandai is one of their bestselling drinks. And, why wouldn’t it? The drink is thick, belly-filling and has all the goodness of almond paste, pistachios, cardamom and kesar.
Khalsa Dairy & Sweets
Khalsa Dairy at Viman Nagar is a household name when it comes to fresh lassi, ghee jalebi, gajar ka halwa and pipping hot pakodas. While they don’t really make thandai, they do sell shahi thadai syrup in a bottle. Priced at INR 270, this syrup is made of almonds, nuts, pistachios, watermelon seeds, rose water, white pepper and refined sugar. All you have to do is add the syrup to the milk and blend it well with ice.
Known for fusion food and out-of-the-box cocktails, Urban Foundry at Balewadi High Street surprised us with chilled thandai milkshake and for a change, it wasn’t spiked with alcohol. The drink was sweet, nutty and quite soul-satisfying.
We know that thandai is ideally supposed to be of a shake-like consistency. But if you have been one of those people who love going against the norm, then head to Yollops in Kothrud and try out their thandai ice-cream. Made with rich saffron, dry-fruits and all essential ingredients, the ice-cream is a must have.
