Divya posted on 05 September

What Is It?

The Pune International Literary Festival {PILF} is in its 5th year, and will take place over the 8th, 9th, and 10th of September 2017 at YASHADA in Baner. The central theme this year is, “Voice of Women”, and various panel discussions around the same will take place throughout the event.

Why Should I Go?

PILF is all about building a community of writers, publishers, and readers; so you’ll get to ‘engage, explore, and experiment with all forms and genres of the written word’. Interact with over 150 authors, film makers, artists, and important people from various other fields {like film, food, etc.}, and sit in on any of the 70 sessions in the categories of Adult Fiction, Non Adult Fiction, Young Adults, Marathi, Hindi and Media. Their illustrious roster of star speakers boast the likes of Javed Akhtar, Neil Hollander, Shabana Azmi, Sudha Menon, Alison Joseph, Jayant Kripalani, Sagarika Ghose, Mani Rao, and Asha Parekh, among others. There are so many interesting things happening, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

From a conversation with real-life detective Rajani Pandit {First Lady Detective of India}, to muse and verse poetry; the fine line between satire and comedy, creating new worlds from reality to fantasy, challenges of getting published abroad, the political landscape of India, women in the movies, secrets of master storytellers, and so much more. Attend workshops at PILF and learn how to write crime fiction, how to protect yourself in cyberspace, handwriting analysis, the language of dance, as well as other useful skills, tools, and tips. Trust us, you’ll walk away from PILF with a far richer library of knowledge than you had before. For the full schedule of workshops, speakers, and events, check their website here.

Anything Else?

Don’t miss the special exhibit on Jane Austen, which will feature her life story, journey as a writer, and numerous works. This year’s Anupam Kher Award for Best Debut Novel in English will also be announced at the end of Day 1 {Friday, 8th Sept}. It’s free entry to PILF, but you have to register online here.
