Getting some greens into your living space is an affordable and easy way to enliven it. It is also a good hobby to get into since gardening is known to be one of the most therapeutic and fulfilling hobbies out there. There's a reason why our parents love their plants so much. If you have a terrace, we highly recommend starting your own little terrace garden. It's a great activity, uses up existing space and makes for a great place to hang out in.

Create a Private Space

If your building has close proximity to your neighbours and you'd like to create a little private nook to do your morning yoga or meditation, block a part of the terrace with a metal or wooden wall frame. You can use the grooves in the wall to hang creepers, create a vertical garden, making it a natural barricade. Come night time, you can also install some battery operated fairy lights and create a little nook for hanging out with your buddies.

Install a Deck

A deck is great if you see yourself hosting parties or dinners on your terrace. It cordons off the rest of the terrace garden, clearly demarcating the spaces that can be used. Get some hardy furniture to weather the conditions, and a makeshift roof to pull up every time it's too sunny or rainy. Install some lamps, and you have yourself your own little romantic private dining space.

Get Nature-Inspired Art

Art can make any space beautiful, so why not your terrace? Get sculptures or installations that are nature-inspired, say some dainty florals or birds. If you're getting metal art, make sure it's installed high up so you don't hit your head against it, and clean the pieces often so they don't rust easily.

Get Sunlight Loving Plants

With your terrace being one of the main spots that gets direct sunlight, you can get plants that need them, think Crotons or Ponytail Palms. You could also do blooming ones like bougainvillea, jasmine or gardenia.

Start a Herb Garden or Vegetable Patch

The pandemic saw many folks starting their own little kitchen gardens to grow some basic herbs and plants. If you have a green thumb, how about starting out your own little herb garden for pastas and pizzas? You could also grow some easy growing vegetables that grow on creepers. Basil, thyme, dill, curry leaves, tomatoes, chillies, eggplants are some easy options to start off with.

Install a Portable Water Fountain

Water fountains aren't just for your backyard, they can look and feel relaxing and luxurious in your terrace garden as well. Install a smaller one that can be placed on a table top or a portable one that takes its water from a basin instead of being connected to a ground water source.

Try Your Hand at Hydroponics

Hydroponics use water infused with minerals and nutrients to grow your veggies instead of soil. Known as the future of gardening and farming, it uses less space and is ideal if you have little space to spare on your terrace.

Add a Cover for Shade

Pick a spot that doesn't get as much light, behind a wall or a staircase and install a cover for shade so you can spend time on the terrace without getting bothered by the direct sunlight. You can do it by installing a gazebo if it's a larger space or an awning for a smaller one.

Add a Hammock

Why wait till your next vacay to relax like a pro? Install a hammock in a corner, cuddle in with a throw and a book and escape the world for a bit in the midst of your terrace garden.

Grow Tall Plants

Using tall plants like bamboo and others creates a faux wall to give your terrace garden some privacy and creates a little green carpet that looks stunning to look at. You could do this along the parapet wall or around certain walls where you need privacy.

Install Practical Lighting

Practical lights are essential to get around your terrace garden safely at night. Install some along the walkways, on walls and amid plants to have multiple layers of lighting that's both cosy and practical.
