After spending two years in lockdown during the pandemic, dreaming about my next travel destination once the world opens again—my list of places to visit has grown unrealistically long. Also, I don't know about you, but now more than ever I am on the lookout for hidden gems that no one has been to before. While there is nothing wrong with travelling to classic destinations, the feeling of exploring an untapped place is rewarding in a way I can't explain. Plus, you get a chance to avoid crowds and high prices while you're at it! So, if you'd like to travel to a place that's less likely to pop up on your friends' Instagram feeds, here are underrated alternatives to nine of the most frequented destinations.

This culturally rich tropical paradise is one of Africa's best beach destinations known for its striking turquoise-blue waters, golden-yellow sand beaches, and lovely resorts designed in a rustic style.
