Women's Day: Women Tell Us Their Favourite Emotional Support Products

I've had a fully developed brain for close to three years now, and the one thing that I'm absolutely certain about is that women are lovely. Girlhood, womanhood, everything in between is beautiful. They are soft, they are caring, they look for, and crave for a community, and better still in today's world, this need for support and finding your tribe is getting more and more spotlighted, and rightly so. The whole trope of 'Oh how I love being a woman' has taken centre stage and lives in our brains rent free, also taking away all the hesitancies that might've been. And while always on the quest for community, and being girls' girls, we also look for support which might at times (surprisingly) come in the form of things we buy, and surround ourselves with. The cute whimsical products we bought mindlessly that nothing other than our intuition told us to lean on a bit more.

I spoke to a few women, and this Women's Day, they told me all about their favourite emotional support product.

My lips are always chapped, no matter how much water I drink or how many lip balms I hoard (read: too many to count at this point), they still decide to not work when I need them the most. But this Inde Wild Dewy Lip Treatment is basically an apology letter from every other balm that’s failed me. One generous application, and suddenly, my lips go from flaky to soft. Also, I love how long-lasting it is (unless I eat it).

To be honest, I don’t have a core product that I absolutely lean on when things go south. But something that never fails to de-stress me and ease me down is my bookshelf. I'm a full-blown reader, so whenever I find myself in that state where my mind insists I have nothing to look forward to, I just look at my bookshelf, stacked with books, waiting for me to pick them up and flip through every page. It reminds me that there are so many stories, some really great ones perhaps, that I can look forward to, and that really helps me out.

My emotional support product? A perfectly brewed cup of coffee, preferably from a cafe with just the right amount of background chatter to make me feel productive but not overwhelmed. If not coffee, then my very specific, borderline-hoarder-level collection of notebooks, because apparently, I believe that the next one will finally organise my life. Also, if we’re leaning into chaos—Spotify playlists that are 70% nostalgia, 20% ‘main character energy,’ and 10% absolute unhinged bangers!

I am not someone who finds it easy to ask for help. I put up a strong front because sometimes I feel guilty for being the person I am: unhinged, weird, and a bit 'too much'. But, my emotional support product, a heart-shaped cushion, makes it easier to be me. This cushion has stayed with me for 15 years— saw me grow, shut, and sometimes, break my own heart. But I love the comfort I feel with it, the mere illusion of things being okay once felt in entirety is made easy with this pillow that also doubles up as a punching bag when I need an outlet to vent emotions.

I  love coffee and Schitt's Creek! Hence, I randomly found this mug four years back on Amazon and I've been attached to it ever since! I use it every single day and you must know that my day feels a bit off when I don't have my morning coffee in it.

Of course my emotional support product is my sippy cup. What better thing to do when you're bored and sad and lonely? Sip water and charge them tears. It's a thing I don't leave my house without, much to the annoyance of the people who accompany me because it's big and I'm clumsy. But sounds like a them problem.

My emotional support product is very basic. A journal. I started journalling regularly one year ago and I don’t know why I didn’t make it a habit sooner. It is my way of processing everyday life, holding healthy interventions for myself if I catch myself obsessing over something unhealthily, or even documenting my ideas more often. I have it in my bag everywhere I go, even if it is to catch up with a friend because sometimes inspiration can strike in the oddest of scenarios. Funnily, I haven’t even had to buy a journal because I am finally using the diaries I thought were too pretty to hold my mundane thoughts. But, paperclip is a favourite.

On my last birthday, my friend bought me this cutesy balloon letter necklace from Hannan that I wear everyday! Anytime I'm not wearing it, I feel like something is missing. As a person who's constantly overthinking and over-planning (iykyk), I fidget with the balloon-y letter (has a great grip to it) whenever I am overwhelmed. It feels like something I have to divert my energy towards when my environment starts feeling turbulent.

I don't have an emotional support product. I just browse through Blinkit and buy the most random things. However, looking back, I feel it has to be the candles I buy! Whenever I'm feeling some type of way(good or bad), I turn to a candle. My favourite buy has to be this candle warmer lamp from Aura Decor! I love it so much, it's pretty, and adds extra charm to my room.

The writer has thought long and hard about her emotional support product. And while I have a couple of things that I can't go without on a daily, from my perfume, earphones, sippy cup to my coffee. The one thing that gives me slight panic when I don't have it on me, or something I fiddle with constantly and mindlessly, has got to be my silver ring that was graciously passed down to me by mother, and to her by her mother before that. I got it as a form of protection when I moved out of my city, it has been eight years, and never a day without it. I obviously don't have a link to it, but I did find something close enough.
