7 Ganesh Chaturthi Decoration Ideas To Bring Bappa Home

I look forward to Ganesh Chaturthi every year, not just for the festive feels or unrestricted supply of modaks from my grandmother's kitchen, but rather for how the whole family comes together to welcome their favourite guest, lord Ganesha. As we all are well aware, we Indians take our hospitality very seriously, thus, every detail has to be up to the mark to ensure our annual guest has a comfy and joyful stay. And a crucial element that acts as the vibe setter in our Ganesh Chaturthi planning is the decor. After all, our guest deserves nothing less than 5-star treatment (with private concierge service, iykyk) and so his pandal must look the part. We put our sense of imagination (and taste) to the test and thought of five aesthetics (along with products) you can check out if you are looking for Ganesh Chaturthi decoration ideas for your home.

Antiquex

Yes, I know what you are thinking, 'antique' is exactly that vibe we already have going on in our puja spaces with brass objects like dhoop stands, diyas, but hear me out. Why not use what we already have (or don't mind using post the Chaturthi celebrations in our puja rooms) but make it look more put together and sophisticated? Take notes and use all objects with a similar coating finish, i.e. same shade of brass (and no mixing-and-matching of metals) to make it look sleek and earthy. Also, flowers make all the difference to any celebration so make sure you don't miss out on them; for this look, we would suggest using garlands of marigolds and mango leaves for decorating the pandal as well as the wall behind to add to the ethnic feels.

Minimal

Yeah, we know the word 'minimal' might have become a little overused but what can we say, we are hopelessly in love with keeping all things simple and clean, especially decor so we might as well give it a shot and give our pandal a minimal makeover. The aim is to keep details subtle and towards light colours like white, off-white, or beige and adding fairy lights to add some life to the otherwise somber look. You can keep the look simple with white flowers or add a punch of colour with red roses and lilies.

Coloured Bliss

If you want to go all out and want your pandal to exude luxurious vibes then get your hands on vibrant and intricate decorations such as colourful flowers, torans, and traditional drapes that add a touch of festivity and joy to the pandal. The colourful decor looks amped up when you add the warm glow of the diyas or lamps to further accentuate the look. Also, use different elements like rangolis, and ornated Kalash, for upping the luxurious feel of the pandal. And don't forget, flowers always make or break the look.

Eco-friendly

Instead of spending money on decor items like diyas or string lights that won't be used until next year, you can decorate the pandal with pots and planters you already have at home. If you are not one for collecting clutter knick-knacks or spending money on decor, there's nothing better than bringing greens into the decor scene. Not only does it add freshness to the room but also looks simple and neat, keeping the focus on the statute of Ganpati instead of the surroundings, just the way it should be. Not to forget, it is a green choice that helps the environment too, win-win for all!

Flower Power

Ganpati pandal decor is incomplete without beautiful flowers that add a galore of vibrancy to the festive mood. If you wanna go the classic route, then gather loads of flowers to hang on the ceiling of your pandal or stick to the wall behind, we suggest artificial ones because they save you from the fuss of being replaced every day unlike fresh ones and can also be reused for home decor afterwards. For an even more decked-up look, get a few coloured scented candles.

Go All Out

Since Ganesh Chaturthi calls for going all out (if that's your aesthetic), why not go for an OTT backdrop that draws all attention towards the deity's statue. Take inspiration from the image and create a background using paper fans (yes, bring those SUPW skills you learnt in school to use), or simply buy readymade ones if you like. We would recommend keeping the rest of the details simple and classic, so that the idol and puja accessories don't clash with your flashy background.

Religious Tranquility

Well, make your guest feel at home by giving their space a makeover inspired by their true home. The idea is to place together elements like the shubh and labh signs, statues of shiv and parvati and maybe go for a white or blue background to match the Mount Kailash vibes (Ganesha's original home), just like in the picture above. You can be super technical and make your own snow-capped mountains from plastic bottles (YouTube to the rescue) or simply arrange a few blue and white hued fabrics together for creating the aura or, simply hang a painting or picture to replicate the vibe with a more mindful choice. Don't forget the kalash, modaks and other puja essentials to tie in the look.

Vastu Tips For Ganpati Murti Placement At Home

The idol is to be placed in the north, northeast, or west corners of your home. It is said that Lord Shiva is said to live in the North. West and northeast are also good options as they too are auspicious directions. Keep the idol away from bathrooms, toilets, and walls attached to them. The idol should ideally be facing the entrance of your home as it said to bring in prosperity that way. However, refrain from placing the idol under the stairs or any dark areas of the house.
