As a little girl, I always fantasised about being a Disney princess, just like a lot of folks around me. Although the fantasy of being a princess faded away as I grew up, I did find some respite in fictional female characters. Some were flawed and quirky; others were a bit bold and daring, and a few were a combination of all of the above. These are characters that make you forget the mundanity of your life or inspire you to deal with it head-on; they are basically a part of your girl gang. They inspire you and make you laugh, cry and, at times, cringe too, but you know you will keep going back to them because that's what the girl code makes you do.

Here are a few of our favourite iconic female characters that shall stay with us forever and ever.

Moira Rose, Schitt's Creek

Schitt's Creek

Any moment in life where you feel sulky and low, turn to 'Schitt's Creek' for an overdose of laughs, tasteful jokes, family bonding, fashion and Moira Rose's accent. Catherine O'Hara absolutely kills it with her phenomenal performance of this well-written character who's so multi-layered, it cracks you up and leaves you in awe of her at the same time. The vocabulary, the mannerisms, the anecdotes from her lost lavish life, and that main character energy are worth every binge rewatching spree.

Amy, The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory

Amy starts out as this overly rational, not very fun-loving, nerdy person on TBBT. Still, as the seasons progress, you see her being more open while retaining hints of her socially awkward personality, something us socially nervous folks can relate with. Sure, she had her flaws (especially when she acted like a pain with Penny and Bernadette), but we liked that the show didn't portray her as a preachy doll. And let's just end by saying that we loved the character development brought by her to Sheldon's existence because that certainly made him a bit more softy for us to like!

Blair Waldorf, Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl

If there's one character we want to live like for (just) a day, it's definitely the Queen B, Blair Waldorf. Call us cliché but beyond those couture dresses, fancy balls, spicy goss-filled dating life, we like Blair for just being Blair. That sophisticated self-righteous attitude, that 'I can conquer the world' presence and the ease with which the character moves through the hard-hitting waves of their lives.

Georgia, Ginny & Georgia

Ginny & Georgia

Georgia is flawed, dark and has done some heinous stuff in the past but all's 'good in the hood' according to her if it's done to protect her family. What makes us like her and cherish her as a fictional character is that she has that cool girl status aced and that even though she doesn't usually wear her heart on ger sleeve to put up a strong front, there's a softer side to her deep inside which always comes through.

Regina George, Mean Girls

Mean Girls

For us, Regina is the OG high school chick, and we can never forget her because 'Jingle Bell Rock' is fully etched in our memory and shall always belong there. She might be a walking, talking red flag (as Gen-Z calls it), but at least she's not pretending to play it nice and is confident being who she is. And well, as they say, it's good to be bad (when purely meant for entertainment, according to us).

Geet, Jab We Met

Jab We Met

Everyone has different reasons to channel the Geet-effect in their lives. Personally, its that will to live life to the fullest, blabber whatever comes to your mind without any filters, and the guts to abuse your ex over the phone (us, when?). Kareena Kapoor Khan absolutely runs the show with her bubbliness in this one and one could not have expected this character to age so beautifully in multiple hearts.

Piku

Deepika Padukone's portrayal of a hand-on daughter to an ailing father is genuinely one of the best performances we have seen on-screen. The obsessive factor, the khit khit with her dad and the way the character showcases the underlying intricacies of the girl's emotional life is absolutely phenomenal. The grace and ease with which this character was shown on-screen is absolutely rare!

Poo, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

You absolutely can't take your eyes off Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Whether its her iconic minus, her recalling Hrithik Roshan as laddoo or her owning the dancefloor in You Are My Soniya. Every girl who has the slightest fascination with Bollywood or Kareena Kapoor Khan wants to channel Poo as their other personality, tell us if we are wrong. And lets not forget, those outfits were slaying!

Rani Chatterjee, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

A comparatively newer entry to our list of female iconic characters, this Dharma heroine isn't a damsel in distress and isn't shy of turning down the older ways because she wishes to retain her identity. She's in love but not super gushy about it and does the modern girl in an old school world really well. Additionally, the wardrobe is fab! We love how sarees are a staple in her closet.

Miss Braganza, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Miss Braganza has aged super well for this generation that can't get enough of fun, quirky characters whose dialect can be tuned into Reels' audio. Poised but overflowing with that vivacious energy, you cannot get enough of her banter with Mr. Malhotra—perfect depiction of an older gal living her life like a cool girl.

Veronica, Cocktail

Cocktail

We love a good party girl every now and then, and Veronica from Cocktail is our icon in this area. She's strong, confident and lives in her own carefree world not taking crap from anyone. Deep inside, her empathetic side shines through on the screen, and even though she struggles a bit to get a grip eventually, you enjoy watching her presence in every scene.
