Debuting in the Hindi film scene in 2009, it has been 15 years since Kalki Koechlin graced our screens, and we haven't looked away since. Known for her brazen attitude, witty interviews, pearly dewy smile, and graceful fashion sense, Koechlin is a recipient of many awards and accolades and has been someone we often associate a strong styling game with.

She is known for her amazing eye for homegrown brands and lesser-known collections, and we definitely had to dig through her closet for some amazing finds. Here are 22 homegrown brands we found in Kalki Koechlin's closet that should be on your radar!

The Story Brand

At Aaliyah Kashyap's mehendi ceremony, Kalki embraced a modern, boho aesthetic in a green scallop skirt and open back blouse from The Story Brand. The look was playful yet elegant, making it perfect for the occasion. Based out of Mumbai, this homegrown lifestyle brand is known for their made-to-match collections for the entire family. We love that they also work closely with women from low-income homes, providing them with income-generating opportunities.

Pro Tip: If you are looking for affordable bridal mehendi looks, this guide will help you!

Summer Somewhere Shop

A brand that makes 'cool girl staples', Summer Somewhere Shop makes pieces that you can carry to your next vacation. Ethically made in Mumbai with locally sourced material, the brand believes in making breathable and breezy pieces that are timeless with a touch of vintage. They have dresses, tops, pants, and skirts and will have you sorted for your next vacation, a stroll around the city, or even a brunch date.

At Aaliyah Kashyap's mehendi ceremony, Kalki complemented her boho chic fit with an intricate potli and stylish footwear from Fizzy Goblet. This designer footwear and accessories brand from India adds a modern twist to traditional fits with their range of juttis, potlis and now, even sneakers! They are super affordable and are equal parts classic and cool, just like this look by Kalki.

Sazo

In a vacay dump, Kalki was spotted wearing this cute swimwear by Sazo. Started by Saoni Daini and Priya Suvarna during the pandemic in 2020, Sazo swimwear was born out of the sheer need of the founders to create something fun. The brand believes in creating unique pieces that turn heads, are bold and funky, and are retail-friendly. They have co-ord sets, skirts, blazer dresses and more. But Kalki and us absolutely love their swimwear collection.

Archana Jaju

Archana Jaju has always been passionate about textiles, and her journey in fashion began with her making clothes out of her grandmother's old pieces. With her family's encouragement and years of study leading to a deep understanding of Indian textiles, she started her own brand in 1996 and hasn't looked back since. Working with local artisans across the country, she focuses on creating intricate embroidery and crafting timeless pieces from the best locally sourced fabrics. While they now make fusion wear as well, we recommend her sarees and dupattas, which will surely become heirloom pieces. They also make men's jackets and kurtas.

Fatherland India

Founded by Ron Dutta, who describes the brand as an 'underground space' that is constantly evolving, Fatherland India offers limited collections of sarees and other women's clothing. Their current collection focuses on working with white and black. The brand's emphasis is on experimentation, and what we find most fascinating is that the founder only creates pieces that speak to him.

The collection includes everything from tops and jackets to blazers, skirts, pants, and co-ord sets. They also offer a wide range of options in the men's collection.

At the Critics' Choice Awards, Kalki donned a beautiful black saree with a red border and golden leaf print from Shanti Banaras. Beyond the awards, she is often seen in sarees by this brand, which brings classic Banarasi sarees to all corners of the country. Inspired by the founders' late grandmother's collection of sarees, this is one brand you must discover for their woven, printed, and hand-embroidered lehengas, dupattas, and, of course, sarees.

LBB Tip: They also have a Delhi store that features an elaborate range of real zari products along with their signature artworks.

From extravagant pieces to aesthetic, shimmery, and sentimental ones, Isharya is a one-stop shop for easy-to-wear, versatile trinkets suitable for year-round wear, as well as durable traditional necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

Nemichand Bamalwa And Sons

Nemichand Bamalwa and Sons Jewellery, particularly their polki design, was flaunted by Kalki as she matched it with a black-printed saree. Originating from Park Street, Kolkata, they house exquisite jewellery pieces. These jewellers from Kolkata craft designs across occasions, whether it's an elegant necklace for a special evening, polki jewellery for a memorable celebration, or diamond pieces to add a touch of glamour.

They curate modern pieces, mostly in solid colour, like this stunning black ensemble worn by Kalki. Founded by Divya, Rupanshi, and Bharat, this homegrown brand is a bid to bridge the gap between the need for women's workwear and its quality.

Shri Paramani Jewels

This 200 year old brand, conceptualised in 1789 by Anshu Gupta and Vinay Gupta, has come a long way from their heritage jadau and polki pieces to collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heermandi.  Spotted in Kalki's look for Diwali, this brand has also been donned by other celebrities, including Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and more. Their exquisite pieces can also be found in their ateliers in Khan Market and Aurobindo Market in Delhi.

Their collection started off with customary items in grandma's treasure box and has broadened into pieces across metals, including silver, gold and diamond. Their diamond drop earrings complement Kalki's stunning blue ensemble here and are one among the many gem crusted studs available in their range.

Founded by Kerala-based designer Annah Chakola, the brand uses her observations from various travels to reflect in this wholesome homegrown label. Its predecessor, Boho Gypsy, was a product of Annah's exposure to the rich legacy of Indian craftsmanship. Annahmol, a childhood nickname that stuck with Annah, is used by her to express her understanding of the world through a myriad of prints, patterns, and designs—a fragment of which is reflected in this beautiful kaftan worn by Kalki. The brand offers a range of products, from accessories to fragrances, handmade stationery to vintage finds for your home.

Pro Tip: If you are looking for some budgeted thrift shopping for some vintage and boho finds, this guide will help you.

Sandalwali

If you are looking to adorn some handmade artistry, then Sandalwali should be on your radar. While Kalki's tassled bag from the brand is what drew us to them, their collection is what made us stay. Handmade by Indian artisans, they began with a collection of stunning sandals in myriad colours and themes. Now, they have widened their offerings to host heels, bags, gifting options and more. They also do customised pieces and we love that their entire collection of sandals are also eco-friendly.

Verb By Pallavi Singhee

Kalki has donned a number of pieces from Verb, and with good reason. Founded in 2008 by Pallavi Singhee in Calcutta, this homegrown brand is an extension of her idiosyncratic style—artistic, spirited, and simultaneously easy. The prints and techniques flirt with the line between tradition and modernity. They are a women-led brand that is big on sustainable fashion and curates pieces based on their social media responses, studying the consumer's likes and dislikes.

'Eka: Clothes for Poets' is definitely what drew us to this brand, which we also found in Kalki's closet. Designed by Rina Singh, her collection reflects her international exposure and extensive travels across rural India. The pieces feel like a canvas, bringing whimsical, poetic, and romantic vibes to the fore. They have different seasonal collections and are big on prints like plaid, often playing extensively with colours.
