Madhuri Dixit's Contemporary Home: A Guide To Recreating It

Madhuri Dixit, the one who has never failed to mesmerise everyone with her smooth dance moves and commendable acting, has also shown that she has impeccable taste in interiors. Her stunning new 5,500-square-foot apartment on the 53rd floor of a Mumbai high-rise faces the sea and is decked up stunningly. She always wanted a home where she'd "feel comfortable, cosy, and loved." A decluttered space with clean lines, minimal undertones, and a contemporary design is what makes her feel that way.

At first glance, everything seems neutral, but the charm lies in the little details. From the vibrant paintings by the Indian artist M.F. Husain (fun fact: Husain ji offered to paint directly on the walls, but Madhuri preferred framed artworks she could take with her wherever life goes), to the musical instruments, to a modern kitchen where they can invite guests.

Here's how you can recreate this beautiful and artistic home on a budget!

M.F. Husain's paintings are the undeniable focal point of every wall in Madhuri’s home. The artwork that truly stands out is the one in the living room—a painting of Madhuri dancing in various dance forms, which is beyond beautiful. While, of course, you can go for customised paintings, if you’re looking for a similar aesthetic, check out the Indian classical art of Maharaja Abhai Singh mentioned below.

The textured brown wall in the living room brings character while standing out against the neutral, dark-toned colors. This dark wall in the middle could have made the space look small, but thanks to the white curtains, ceiling, floor tiling, and wide sofas, the room looks classy and spacious. This one from Excel, with wavy lines all over, can evoke a similar illusion!

Musical Instruments

Madhuri's and Dr Nene's Mumbai home has a separate room where the family gathers around to spend time and have fun. The room has musical instruments, like guitars and drums, since they are a musical family that loves to jam. Everybody plays and sings, and cherishes the moments they spend together. While there are instruments that can be played, I actually want to majorly focus on the musical decor pieces that have been kept on the main table of the living room and the carvaan-like speaker on the side table of a bedroom. The aesthetic it adds to the overall minimal decor is absolutely amazing.

This high-rise apartment has covered all the negative left-out space with white flower pots and vases, which is certainly a smart move. It's an excellent choice for elevating an urban home without overloading it with colour. This one from PUREZENTO has got a whimsy touch to it which further adds to its visual appeal.

Moving on to the furniture, the common area features two semi-curved seating options — a large sofa in a regal midnight blue and a subtly tri-sectioned seater. With a round coffee table in the centre, the semi-curved edges of the sofa and seater look perfectly complementary. The taupe seater is further accentuated with printed cushions, which I’m absolutely taking as add-on inspo!

Yet another piece of furniture advice which I observed is that Madhuri chose quilted chairs in the common area, which helps not just to make the space exude luxury but also becomes a royal contrast to the minimal aesthetic. Also, the surprising shade of teal against the neutral marble dining table, and (not to forget) the grand piano, is definitely a sight to behold.
