While the weather keeps having more mood swings than me, I'm back here once again to tell you what's streaming in August. Whether you're indoors by your choice or by force (of the weather), a good watch can lift up all sombre spirits, so without me further babbling, let's dive right in!
11 OTT Releases In August To Watch On Long Or Not So Long Weekends
Overview
Emily In Paris Season 4
Emily’s third season in Paris was a whole lot of drama. After the bombastic cliffhanger of an ending, where Gabriel and Camille were getting married until they weren’t, Camille was pregnant, and Alfie broke up with Emily after finding out Gabriel still loves her… whew, I need to find out what’s going to happen next. People who ship Emily and Gabriel will pull their hair out if they don’t get together this season, but so will people who ship Alfie and Emily if they actually break up! See, that’s why love triangles are so good.

Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba
Vikrant Massey & Taapsee Pannu’s Haseen Dillruba is getting a second part, this time with Sunny Kaushal in tow. Even though the first part had mixed reviews, with some critics appreciating the dark and pulpy setting while some called it 'an ode to violent, frenzied love' (Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost), all praised Vikrant Massey’s performance. Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba will continue the story of the two murders and how they scheme to evade the cops with the help of a mild-mannered admirer, played by Sunny Kaushal.

Modern Masters: S.S. Rajamouli
The mastermind behind some of India’s biggest movies like Bahubali & RRR, SS Rajamouli has made a name for himself that everyone recognises. Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli is his upcoming biographical documentary presented by Anupama Chopra. The movie features snippets of conversations with big names such as Prabhas, Jr NTR, Rana Daggubati and Ram Charan, who are also his close friends and colleagues. Other big names include James Cameron, Joe Russo and Karan Johar as well. The movie will have behind-the-scenes footage and will deep dive into the work style of Rajamouli. The trailer gives juicy deets, how Rajamouli transforms into a whole new person when working on a movie, how he becomes a madman and loses his empathy! Add to your watchlist to see what goes behind while these cinematic masterpieces are made.

Gyaarah Gyaarah
I don’t know about you, but I love any fictional account that bends time and gives us concepts like time travel, time loops and multiverses! This is why as soon as Gyaarah Gyaarah’s trailer started with 'samay sirf ek bhram hai, an illusion', I was already fully reeled in. The plot —a murder mystery— is spread over three timelines: 1990, 2001, and 2016! The eight-part series combines elements of mysticism, science and mystery. The series is described as being in the investigative fantasy drama genre and stars Raghav Juyal, Kritika Kamra, and Dhairya Karwa.

Life Hill Gayi
Rakhi is fast approaching, and so is this series called Life Hill Gayi. People are already excited about this release because it stars Kusha Kapila and Divyendu as siblings who turn into rivals after their grandfather keeps an inheritance challenge for them, which is to revive a down-in-the-dumps hotel in the hills. It’s supposed to be a comedy and watch-with-your-family kind of movie, so do add it to your list!

Women In Blue
Forgive me, friends, because even though this one is not technically releasing in August, I am the most excited about this one and wish you would add it to your watchlist for the month. Um, no, Women In Blue is not about the female Indian cricket team (as much as we wish it were), but rather it's about Mexico's first women police force in 1971, focusing on 4 women out of them. The setting is ultra-conservative and they soon realise that this police force might just be a ploy to distract the public from a bigger threat, a gruesome serial killer called the Undresser (ew). We hear the strength of the show lies in the depth and variety of characters, so watch it fast, fast, fast!

A Good Girls Guide To Murder
This one is for the Booktok girlies! Just how good (and scary) does it feel to have the book you were obsessing over a couple of months ago become a TV series? Would they or would they not do justice to it? Most of us might already know that A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is based on Holly Jackson’s popular trilogy and is about 17-year-old Pippa Fitz-Amobi who still has questions about the mysterious disappearance of Andie Bell, even though 5 years have passed and the residents of the small English town of Little Kilton believe that her boyfriend, Sal Singh, killed her before killing himself. Expect a good mystery, a young adult drama, and an entertaining watch!

Shekhar Home
I don't know who asked for this, but here we still have it—a Hindi adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. While it's in my nature to be a cynic, I'm going to try not to let my feelings taint this description. Starring Kay Kay Menon, Ranvir Shorey, and Rasika Duggal, Shekhar Home is your neighbourhood detective solving all seemingly unsolvable mysteries.

Dune 2
To all those who missed watching Dune 2 in theatres or saw it but are still waiting for the OTT release of Dune 2, your wait is over because the movie will be available for streaming on Jio Cinema this August. Starring fan-favourite Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, it is an epic science fiction film and an adaptation of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel Dune.

Brinda
Watching the trailer of the upcoming Telugu original series, Brinda certainly left me thinking. What I could gather, for starters, is that it’s of the crime/mystery/thriller genres, but it also has a chilling, superstitious element to it with ritualistic practices like human sacrifices. The protagonist, Brinda, is played by 1999 Miss Chennai and a prominent actor in Tamil and Telugu films, Trisha Krishnan. It’s her debut and fans are super excited about this series. There are hints of misogyny in the police force where Brinda works and secrets about Brinda herself that make this upcoming series a very anticipated watch.

Turbo
All action fans are going to love this release! Starring superstar and Padma Shri recipient Mammootty, Turbo is a Malayalam language action comedy film which was released in theatres in May 2024 and is now getting an OTT release on SonyLiv. The official plot tells us that the film is about Jose, a jeep driver from Idukki who gets in trouble and is forced to relocate to Chennai, where he gets entangled with Indhu and his best friend, Jerry. A bunch of surprises in the form of Vetrivel and others await Jose in Chennai.
