Leaving the house during the monsoon is pure misery. The irritating humidity, the sweat, the rivers ON roads, the crazy traffic… that combined with our general dislike for going out gives us an easy excuse to just keeping lazying around on our living room couch, snuggled in an AC comforter with the AC blasting on full speed, and watching everything the humongous OTT universe has to offer. Alright, getting to the point now—to help you avoid the struggle of picking a show to watch when you actually sit down to watch something, we’ve curated a list of all the exciting movies and TV shows that are releasing on OTT in August. Let’s dive straight to the watchlist!

Heart Of Stone

It’s Gal Gadot vs Alia Bhatt in this much anticipated Netflix release. Alia Bhatt’s Hollywood debut, The Heart Of Stone is a spy action thriller that revolves around a global peacekeeping agency, the charter, the only thing that is left ‘when governments fail.’ Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) appears to be a star agent, that is, until ‘the heart’ that gives the charter its power (and it is immense, market shattering & plane crashing power) is hacked by Alia Bhatt! Yes sir, Alia Bhatt will be seen as the main antagonist, and that’s kind of exciting. Other attractions in the movie include Jamie Dornan and scenic views of Europe and Iceland.

Zombieverse

All Of Us Are Dead meets Squid Game in this South Korean horror series (and heaven knows we love them!). A survival series based in Seoul, the contestants not only have to outwit the undead and find water and shelter, but also have to face challenging quests daily that are thrown at them. If you love yourself a good scare and some zombies (who doesn’t?) make sure you don’t forget to add it to your watchlist.

Choona

It seems Netflix is keeping Choona tightly under the wraps, at least at the time this list is being written, because even the official trailer isn’t out yet. All we know right now is that movie stars Jimmy Sheirgill and Arshad Warsi, faces we’ll never get tired of seeing on screen. The official plot uses just the right words to pique our interest, though. It’s about a ‘group of misfits,’ and a ‘ruthless politician’ that’s collectively hated by them. Of course, they take the obvious route every common man in their shoes will choose to take, that is, to plan a heist to exact revenge. Created by Pushpendra Nath Mishra, Netflix uses only good words like offbeat and exciting to describe the film. Satirical comedies can be extremely hard to get right—but if you do, you’ve got yourself a gem. Find out how this one will be for yourself on August 3!

Red, White & Royal Blue

If you watch cinema for the escape it provides, and love stories are your favourite way to cope with your, ahem, especially gloomy dating life (you are not alone), you’d love this one! There’s just something so comforting about a cutesy romantic comedy where the entire world seems to revolve around you and your partner. Based on a New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston is kind of a high-profile romance story. When First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry stage a fake friendship for the sake of American/British relations, real sparks follow! A lot is at stake, but the heart does want what it wants, right? We’re super excited for this one, streaming on Amazon Prime Video this August.

Made In Heaven Season 2

Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is finally over! After a lot of teasing, speculation, 'accidental Instagram lives' and angry comments, Prime Video has announced the date of Made In Heaven season 2, and it's super close. Adding heat to the already sizzling atmosphere around the show, Zoya teased on her Instagram caption that the "The weddings, the drama and the chaos are about to get 2X (times) grander." Made In Heaven has a lot to like. An ode to the Big Fat Indian Wedding, it shows a tussle between the old and new, tradition and modern aspirations. A stellar cast with skilled actors like Jim Sarbh, Kalki Koechlin, Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, season 1 was adored by audience and critics alike, and even got Arjun Mathur a nomination for best actor at the Emmys. The countdown for season 2 begins!

Guns And Gulaabs

The trailer of Raj & DK's (the duo that gifted us The Family Man) Netflix Debut is finally out, and it is safe to say, it was worth the wait! Seriously, we've been won over with the retro Bollywood style teaser that Netflix has shared on their Instagram, giving us with very high hopes about the series. Starring Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salman, Gulshan Devaiah, and Adarsh Gourav in the leading roles, the series is set in the 90s, a fact that is spilling over throughout the trailer. The 'crazy new series' will be a complete package with romance, comedy, innocence while actually being a crime thriller.

The Hunt For Veerappan

One of the most dreaded criminals of India, everyone has heard stories about the notorious poacher turned smuggler with the infamous handlebar moustache who was responsible for the longest, costliest man hunt in India that lasted almost two decades. He killed around 184 people (including police officers and forest officers) kidnapped major politicians for ransom and smuggled ivory and sandalwood. The docu-series uses firsthand accounts from people close to him or sought to capture him. The series digs deep into his complexities and unearths untold stories about his life. The series certainly seems like a spine-chilling watch, so stay tuned!

Heartstopper Season 2

A guilty pleasure teenage romantic drama, Heartstopper is the kind of show that we know gives us happiness, like chocolates and cheese, but we pretend not to like it (nah, we don't). The British coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama on Netflix was loved by the critics and audience alike is returning for a second season! Happy tears, binge watching in pyjamas with our mouths stuffed with cake and nachos days are back, guys. And boy do we look forward to them.

Neymar

Neymar is a Malyalam language comedy film that is releasing on OTT (Disney Plus Hotstar) this August after its successful theatrical run. The film features two young actors—Mathew Thomas, Naslen K. Gafoor, but the star was obviously Neymar, the doggo around whom the movie revolves. But this movie about a furry friend is not the emotional kind—Neymar turns the life of the two boys upside down and they have the adventure of their lives! (The reason they got the dog in the first place was to impress a girl, after all...)

About My Father

An American comedy film starring none other than Robert De Niro (YES), About My Father is a sweet and heartfelt watch. The movie is about the drama (and laughter) that ensues when Sebastian tells his Italian immigrant father Salvo that he's planning to propose his Italian girlfriend, and Salvo insists on crashing a weekend with their family. A familiar 'clash of cultures' we all love, you can watch About My Father for a lighthearted evening.
