OTT content has created a rooted place in our routines, that we're consuming it even without realising it. Metro rides, meals, and especially the days when we don't have the capacity to be 'living our lives to the fullest,' all are incomplete without binge-watching something or the other. Its like tadka to a bland dal and if the tadka isn't good, then the vibes go off real fast. In that spirit, we're here to tell you all the TV series and movies releasing on various OTT channels this April that make for a worthwhile pastime.

Amar Singh Chamkila

There’s a lot of buzz around Diljit’s next movie, which is a biopic directed by Imtiaz Ali, and is premiering on Netflix on 12 April. It’s based on the life of a Punjabi musician Amar Singh Chamkila, who faced both the praise and the ire of the audiences for his controversial and brash lyrics that were often social commentaries, or devotionals. The songs became a massive hit but he was killed at the age of 27 along with his wife and co-singer, Amarjot, played by Parineeti in the film. ASC if often referred to as the “Elvis Presley of Punjab,’‘ and we're excited to watch Diljit play him!

The Great Indian Kapil Show

It’s an exciting time for uncles and aunties, because Kapil Sharma’s show is back and this time around on Netflix! If you were lost on what to see at dinner time with your family, now that problem is solved. The first episode premiered on March 30, with Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima as guests. It will be followed by a new episode every Saturday, and the next will air on 6 April.

Parasyte: The Grey

Get ready to be scared out of your wits because unidentified parasitic creatures are going to take over humans and wreak havoc everywhere! Parasyte: The Grey is an upcoming South-Korean sci-fi horror series (our favourite kind of K-Dramas), based on the popular manga series Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki. It premiers on 5 April on Netflix, and is directed by Yeon Sang-ho (from Train To Busan and Hellbound). Originally, the popular comic which sold over a record 25 million copies, carried a philosophical edge to it as well. We’re excited to see if its live-action adaptation lives up to the name!

Farrey

A not-your-usual highschool drama, Farrey leaves behind the love triangles, pubescent outbursts, bullying and substance abuse and is instead a ‘heist thriller film’ that belongs to the mystery/drama genres, which is about a cheating racket. Based on the Thai film  Bad Genius, Farrey is the debut of Alizeh Agnihotri. Orphan genius Niyati, who’s got admission to the school on scholarship, gets entangled in a cheating racket, trying to help her rich friends crack a high stakes exam.

Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout

Manoj Bajpayee fanclub, it’s almost time to come out of your slumber! Silence… Can You Hear It? Was a 2021 murder mystery film and while we hear the storyline was average, Manoj Bajpayee and Prachi Desai’s comeback performance was hailed. This time, the film is called Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout and sees the return of ACP Avinash. With a shootout and multiple murders, the makers promise that the story will be intriguing and will have unforeseen twists and turns.

Fallout

Based in a post-apocalyptic America, Fallout is an upcoming series on Amazon Prime Video. The plot description given by the platform tells us that its based on one of the greatest video games of all time (of the same name), like anyone who's even remotely into gaming must know. We know from the trailer that in this post-apocalyptic world, there are endangered Vault Dwellers, who took refuge in fallout bunkers to 'build a better day after the worse was to happen,' then there's a brotherhood, who joined it to 'hurt the people who hurt them,' and the other brutal and unforgiving species and creatures out and about. Starry eyed Lucy's optimistic attitude is challenged when she ventures out of her vault to the big bad world. We have a feeling this series will be a good one!

Releasing On: 11 April

Streaming Platform: Prime Video

Lootere

The action is going to shift from the land and to the high tides and treacherous seas of Somalia! Guided by Scam 1992's famed Hansal Mehta as a showrunner and directed by his son Jai Mehta, Lootere is a gripping tale that is full of masala from all angles. There's Somalian pirates taking over a precious cargo ship, there's a morally grey protagonist in Vikrant Gandhi, and there are elements of a political thriller. While the first two episodes have already aired starting 22 March, the rest of the 6 episodes will be subsequently released every Friday.

Releasing On: New Episode Every Friday, starting 22 March
