Punnamada Lake

Punnamada Lake, a serene backwater expanse, is part of the Vembanad lake (the largest lake in Kerala). The most unique attraction here is the Champakulam Moolam Boat Race. It is an annual snake boat race in Kerala held across the Pampa River, which attracts thousands of spectators. How To Reach: There is about 15 km that separates Allapuzha and Champakulam. A taxi would be your safest bet to reach here. 

LBB Tip: Rent a car, hire a taxi, or use public transportation to explore this area. The annual snake boat race takes place on the Pampa River in June or July so plan your trip accordingly. 

Thanneermukkom Bund

Thanneermukkom Bund is a fascinating engineering marvel that is a must-visit place to see in Alappuzha. Also known as the Thannermukkom Salt Water Barrier, it was constructed as a part of the Kuttanad Development Scheme to prevent tidal action and intrusion of salt water into the Kuttanad lowlands. Constructed in 1974 and functional since 1976, it is the largest mud regulator in India. This barrier essentially divides the lake into two parts: one with brackish water perennially and the other half with fresh water fed by the rivers draining into the lake. Apart from taking a walk alongside this bund, you can also catch breathtaking views of the Vembanad Lake and the surrounding backwaters from here. On a pleasant day, you may also spot a variety of bird species here, including migratory birds, that flock to the area.

Vijay Beach Park

Located on the southern side of the Alappuzha backwaters, near the Alappuzha beach, Vijay Beach Park is a popular recreational spot in the heart of Alappuzha, Kerala. Pandavan Para

Pandavan Para, also known as Pandavan Rock, is a fascinating historical and natural site nestled in the serene village of Urukunnu near Thenmala, Alleppey. Shrouded in myths and legends, this ancient rock formation is believed to have been a hideout for the Pandavas from the Mahabharata during their exile. This place offers breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and the Kallada Dam from the hilltop. How To Reach: To reach the top, visitors must drive to the base and then climb a 20-foot rock although stairs are available. The nearest railway station is Chengannur railway station. 

St Mary Forane Church

St. Mary's Forane Church, also known as Champakulam Kalloorkadu St. Mary's Basilica, is one of the oldest Christian churches in India. Located in Alleppey district, this historic church dates back to 427 AD and boasts a unique blend of Portuguese and Syrian Christian architectural styles. It also boast traditional rock inscriptions, ancient artifacts, and mural paintings.

By Train: Alleppey Railway Station is the main railway station in Alleppey. It's connected to major cities like Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Bangalore, New Delhi, and Cochin. Taxis, auto-rickshaws, and buses are readily available outside the station.

For local sightseeing, it is better to use public transport and soak in all the views and scenery through the journey.
