11 Booktok Books That Will Make You Revisit Your Wattpad Days

The first on my list is this hidden gem by Siggy Shade. It is about a woman who is being stalked by a mysterious figure who is ruining her belongings and stealing her underwear. She sets up a hidden camera and discovers that the stalker is a gorgeous and attractive man with black wings and a forked tail, adorned with intricate black tattoos, and intends to capture him. Filled with fiction, fantasy and a lot of spice, this is a book that needs a trigger warning before you start as it has a lot of situations that might be uncomfortable for some. 

Colleen Hooven is not a new name to anyone whether you see Booktok or not, but instead of the hyped-up It Ends With Us, we would suggest trying Verity. It is about the struggling writer Lowen who accepts an offer to finish writing the rest of a bestselling series by injured author Verity Crawford. At the request of Verity’s husband, Jeremy, Lowen moves into the Crawford home to dive deeper into the famous author’s research, notes and outlines. It’s there that she finds a concerning and bone-chilling autobiography written by Verity, and soon after, inexplicably odd things begin happening to Lowen, threatening her safety. Full of mystery, thrill and gut-wrenching slow-burn romance, readers say this book will have you feeling all the emotions that are there and then some. 

The most loved book from the Twisted series is Twisted Lies, which is why we suggest starting with the latest one instead of the first one Twisted Love, but you can give it a try too if you're more into the enemies-to-lovers trope. The book features the charming, deadly and smart enough to hide it — Christian Harper who is a monster dressed in the perfectly tailored suits of a gentleman. He has little use for morals and even less use for love, but he can't deny the strange pull he feels toward the woman living just one floor below him. This one will set your standards as Ana Huang takes boy-obsessed to another level with Christian's character. The pairing of Christian and Stella will give you everything you require in a romance book you cannot keep down for even a second after picking up. 

Only the OGs would know that a dark side of Wattpad existed full of taboo tropes and stories, and if like me you indulged in it a little more than you should've then this one is definitely for you. A Touch Of Taboo is the name of the series and the first part is Your Dad Will Do. It is about a girl who has been harbouring a dark secret for two long years. She's low-key attracted to her fiancé's father, and can't help but think improper thoughts that a daughter-in-law should definitely not be indulging in. So when she catches her fiancé cheating on her, there's only one revenge that she can think of. It has a lot of meme-worthy moments, along with some moments you will not want to read in public. 

Three Simple Rules by Nikki Sloane is a steamy romance novel which is part of the series Blindfold Club. It follows the story of a woman, Evie, who is forced to enter into a contract with a mysterious man, to save her dream job.  "Rule number one, no questions. Rule number two, no lies. But, rule number three? That's the hardest one to obey." is the official description of the book. As she navigates these rules and boundaries set by him, she finds herself drawn to him in ways she never expected. For those who don't care much about the plot and story, but still want good writing, this was Booktok's beloved choice with its sizzling scenes and fast-paced plot developments. 

After Chief Nash Morgan is nearly killed in an attack he can't fully remember, he struggles to get his life back on track—until his brother's ex-girlfriend, Lina Solavita, shows up in their small town, igniting a forbidden attraction. Now this one is truly, all Insta-love as quoted by Booktokers on their videos, and perfect for those who love dramatic, slow-burn, spicy and character-heavy books. This is the second book of the series, which was my favourite exactly because of the slightly cringe side of it that reminded me exactly of Wattpad days.  

A Court of Mist and Fury is a captivating fantasy novel by Sarah J. Maas known by everyone who stays updated with the latest books that are being loved, especially fantasy ones. It follows the journey of Feyre, a young woman navigating the dangerous and seductive world of the faerie courts while discovering her own strength and courage with the beloved Booktok character Rhys. This one is the sequel to A Court of Thorns and roses and is one of those rare exceptions where the sequel is even better than the original. 

If you were not on Wattpad you might've tried reading mangas on Webtoon, and this Graphic novel will awaken just those emotions. Adapted on print from the platform itself, this one is spicy, paranormal, taboo, and fantasy all in one, and it's also an LGBTQIA+ book. It is about Erza whose faith is waning when God intervenes and sends him on a mission to protect Sunny, an outwardly normal human, from demonic forces. Looks can be deceiving, however, as Sunny proves to have hidden secrets and a bloody past nipping at his heels. Perfect for those who don't love reading just as much. 

If you loved The Vampire Diaries or if you love the trope of bodyguards falling for the one they need to protect, or in general if you love a forbidden romance, then JLA has brought this beautiful read to you. It is about the life of Poppy, a maiden chosen from birth to usher in a new era. Poppy's life is defined by duty and solitude, as she prepares for her Ascension. However, her feelings are conflicted when she encounters Hawke, a guard who challenges her beliefs and incites forbidden desires. Meanwhile, a fallen kingdom seeks revenge, posing a threat to Poppy and her world. As the boundaries between duty, desire, and right and wrong blur, Poppy's life and the fate of her kingdom hang in the balance. I'd suggest giving this book a little time (about 15% of the book) before you reject it and put it down for being too slow because post that, you will not be able to keep it down. 

The author of Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo has a lot of books which are connected by little easter eggs that you will find while you read them, and Daisy Jones And The Six is no exception to this. I was surprised to find out that the popular show is based on a book written by none other than Taylor Jenkins Reid, wherein the book has a lot more to offer which was not in the show. In case you have missed all the hype, it is about Daisy, a young woman growing up in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. She enjoys going to clubs on the Sunset Strip and has relationships with rock stars. She dreams of singing at the Whisky-a-Go-Go and becomes recognized for her talent and beauty. Meanwhile, the moody frontman of a band called The Six, Billy Dunne, faces pressure as his girlfriend discovers she's pregnant. Their paths cross when a producer pairs them up, leading to the rise of one of the most influential bands of the 1970s.

Holly Black was onto something when she started the Folk of Air series with this book. It is about Jude, a human living in the dangerous High Court of Faerie, who seeks to belong despite the fey's dislike for humans, especially Prince Cardan. To earn her place, she must go against him and navigate the schemes of the palace. Betrayal is the way of the courts of the faerie, and Jude must put her life at risk to save her sisters and the faerie kingdom itself. If you're a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope, this book is a blind buy, but what sold me was the effortless world-building, the top-notch writing and the second half when I couldn't keep the book down as the plot twists just kept getting crazier at each page.
