A story about the legendary Achilles and his lover Patroclus, this book will clench your heart as the characters grow up to join the Trojan War and live those 10 years in the war environment. We are warning you in advace, keep a box of tissues handy for all those tears.

If you have not read this yet, even after the movie release, then this should mark the top of your reading list, period. The most beautiful romance novel in current times. This book follows the story of Alex Cameron-Diaz, son of the US President and Prince Henry of the United Kingdom, as they go from being enemies to lovers in one of the most adorable ways. 

A fun read about a ghost writer (someone who writes without using their real name as the author) going to her fathers funeral, only to start seeing the ghost of a man, who just happens to be her new editor. Its a creative romance novel as the ghostwriter meets a real ghost and falls for him in a hilarious series of events. 

The bodyguard and the princess falling for each other is a classic trope that we cannot just get enough of. This book does it right with a Girl X Girl romance that is so slow-burn that it will frustrate you until the very end as they refuse to accept their love for each other in the fictional world of Priory. Samantha shannon has done a fantastic job of world building in this novel which will make it very easy of you to imagine it play out in your head. 

A super underrated book, this one follows the plot of a boy as he admits himself into a mental hospital for feeling depressed and suicidal. Mind you, he is an average boy who always comes second in life, making this book quite relatable as he figures out the simplicity of the journey of life by meeting a girl at this hospital. 

A book written out only in letters, this is a unique romance between two agents from rival companies, Red and Blue as they travel in time and leave these messages for each other. A fun fact about this one is that each author wrote the letters by each character, respectively, forming a book with just that. Blue’s life is threatened and as red tries to warn them, the plot proceeds. 

This is the story of a lark who fell in love with an eagle, and a king who gave his queen the words. It's a story of power, of humanity, of special people with special abilities, of diversity and of how this diversity doesn't matter to all those who have a heart. A fantasy romance that is so lyrical and poetic that you will find even the simplest of the sentences to be profound.  

This is a unique pick as it is written from a male POV rather than the general female one, giving you an insight into how boys think when they fall in love. The story follows an adult Tristran who is trying to cross the wall into the realm of Faerie in order to get a fallen star in an effort to win his love's hand. As these things do, however, it proves to be no easy feat, and Tristran, if he survives at all, will undoubtedly be a very different man from the one who set out having fallen for the fallen star herself. 

As all romance readers will tell you, this is a must read fiction. The story, which is initially set during the Second World War, centres on nurse Claire Beauchamp, who goes back in time to Scotland in the eighteenth century and finds romance and adventure there with the handsome Jamie Fraser. A beautiful piece of prose that shows you the power of love which can move mountains and yet becomes infallible in some places. The best part is the characters and the detailing in their arcs, which makes you feel quite attached to them with the way they are written. 

One of the books you can definitely judge by the cover because it is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. This book is a feminist retelling of the Korean folk story “The Tale of Shim Cheong.” In the original, a devout daughter gives herself up to the Sea God in order to aid her blind father in becoming sighted, but she is rewarded for her selflessness and is brought back to land. This is a cute mythological epic romance which is a must read to give your book collection a higher exposure into other cultures. 

If you don’t want something heavy and prefer more softcore books, then this TJ Klun novel is calling for you. This follows Arthur and Linus, a protective caretaker of children and a government agent in their 40s as they unveil secrets and fall for each other in a found family manner. Extremely wholesome and precious, this romance will truly have you getting all ooey-gooey over the character arcs.
