When I think of Sonam Kapoor, the first word that comes to mind is fashion. Her impeccable sense of style has always been the talk of the town, and now that she's back in town from Notting Hill, her Mumbai condo is nothing short of a museum, it is a maximalist's dream come true.

Sonam isn’t just a woman with a taste for antique art, she’s also a true collector of all the beautiful things she’s loved from around the world. Her love for Indian art is evident in the hand-painted walls, woollen textiles, and Tanjore paintings. And that's not all—her home also features Victorian candle stands, a writing chest, and a stunning collection of Chinese and Dutch pottery. I could honestly spend hours listening to Sonam talk about each of her artefacts, teak furniture, and glass paintings.

Now that you’ve caught the vibe and if you’re just as inspired by her vibrant abode as I am and feel like recreating it, the research has been done for you!

Here’s how you can add a similar essence without breaking the bank.

Printed rugs can brighten up a room in the most visually appealing way. Sonam used the majority of Jaipuri rugs to make her home aesthetically intriguing and it worked well. Beyond the visual appeal, rugs also provide warmth and comfort, making the home feel, well, homely. This OBSESSIONS rug with a vintage feel is the ideal floor covering—it looks good and works well!

If you are a maximalist but also have a knack for keeping things royally rich around you, zardozi embroidery is the way to go. Sonam's cushion covers in the living room are ornated by metallic zari threads that really make the entire aura scream luxury. Colours like gold and maroon can further glorify the space.

One thing that really stood out for me when I saw the Sonam's guest bedroom was that she used a writing chest. I'm still speculating how could it be functional, but it really adds a lot of character. Using or repurposing old trunks has become the norm in recent years, which I am delighted about. This one from Living With Elan is not as similar in colour, but you can always have it painted or modify the colourway to match this IT piece.

What I used to read in Indian classical literature is honestly what Sonam's master bedroom looks like. It's not just the walls and vases; the Jharokha, a stone window located directly over her bed, is the main focal point of the room. I found a similar one from Lakkadhaara, so don't forget to thank me later!

Sonam ensured that her home reflected not only Indian but also global diversity. She filled her bedroom shelves with Chinese vases, a kind of art that dates back to the 14th century. The colour scheme is quite boho, so if you also want to stick to two contrasting colours, this is how you can go about it.

Whether it's the bar area (like it is at Sonam's home) or any central wall that has to be highlighted by statement-making pieces, covering it with fans is a unique and artistic approach. Sonam used ancient fans from Madras. While I couldn't find an exact replica of it, I did find a lovely handwoven bamboo fan. Trust me, it will make its own statement!

Face figurines are becoming very popular as go-to home decor accessories. They can be used as collectable items to display with a stack of books. The one I prefer is from CasaGold. It is versatile since it can be used as both an incredible accent and a table lamp. Win-win, right?
