20 Bollywood Romcom Movies To Watch This Cuffing Season

The latest Ranveer Singh- and Alia Bhatt-starrer was either absolutely loved by folks, or vehemently questioned. But what did stay constant is that everyone left the theatres with a smile on their face thanks to the fact that Karan Johar managed to recreate what he's best known for — a typical Bollywood romantic-comedy. The plot follows a Bengali journalist Rani, who falls in love with a flamboyant Punjabi boy Rocky, despite their obvious differences. After facing opposition from their family they decide to live with each other's family for three months before getting married, with hilarious, and often dramatic and heart-warming consequences.

Soon, Simran falls for Jay and makes it quite evident, forcing him to deal, and come to terms with his feelings even when he's hesitant to convey them.

YJHD is a movie that is embedded in a whole generation's minds and souls. A cult favourite, this movie follows the lives of Bunny and Naina, who find love, lose it, and then find it again—in each other. Naina, played by Deepika Padukone, is a studious, nerdy girl who just wants to have fun. Later, a chance meeting with her friend Aditi leads to a trip she'll remember forever and also where she meets Bunny, a boy she absolutely falls in love with, but Bunny decides not to reciprocate. Drama, romance, and bits of comedy—this isn't your typical rom-com, but it will always rank high for us.

Arguably one of Sonam Kapoor's best movies. But what we love most about this movie is how Sonam Kapoor basically plays herself as Aisha. Abhay Deol wins all our hearts with those dimples, while the soundtrack of the movie is played at every single bonfire till date! The movie follows the life of Aisha, a rich south Delhi brat and her friends, who go through life in high heels, finding love, falling out of it and everything else in between.

One of Ayushmann Khurrana's earlier movies, Dum Laga Ke Haisha follows the lives of Prem, a school dropout who hesitantly marries an educated girl Sandhya (played by Bhumi Padnekar), and how they eventually find love in each other when Prem decides to participate in a race where he has to carry Sandhya on his back. It's cute, wholesome, and will leave you all warm and smiling.

Icon Irrfan Khan's movie, Qarib Qarib Singlle follows the lives of Yogi and Jaya, two people with super contrasting personalities who meet via a dating app. They rediscover themselves while they also set out to revisit their past, which eventually ends up in a crazy, strange and eventful trip, involving missing trains, endless taxi rides, and several ups and downs.

This one remains one of our favourite movies of all time. They continue to run into each other over the course of several years and at different stages in life. Eventually, their relationship with each other evolves, and they fall in love.

Chances are you've already seen it umpteen number of times. If you haven't, watch it now! You can't possibly give this Imtiaz Ali blockbuster a miss. Aditya, a depressed business tycoon, boards a train in an attempt to run away from his life and meets the super chirpy and full-of-life Punjabi kudi Geet and gets dragged into a crazy roller coaster ride thanks to the latter, who believes in living life on her own terms.

Another slice-of-life romcom that you just can't miss. They refuse to get into a romantic relationship and start dating other people, only to realise that they're in love with each other. The film has several moments that'll make you laugh and cry.

Possibly our favourite R Balki film, Cheeni Kum revolves around Buddhadev Gupta, a 64-year-old chef played by Amitabh Bachchan, who falls in love with Nina (Tabu), a software engineer 30 years younger than him. The performances and simple moments in the film will warm your heart and leave you with happy tears.

When you draft the best Bollywood rom-com list, Wake Up Sid always finds itself a spot in it. Directed by Ayan Mukherjee, the movie revolves around a rich, spoilt college-going brat named Siddharth Mehra and an independent and responsible aspiring writer named Aisha, who meet each other at a party and hit it off instantly. Siddharth (Ranbir Kapoor) learns to become more responsible thanks to his ambitious friend, played efforlessly by Konkona Sen Sharma.

If you are a fan of the one sided love trope, this one will definitely top your list. Brownie points for the chuckles it gives and the cute songs! Imran Khan is often considered the stamp of a heartfelt rom-com movie, and in this case, we agree. This is that wholesome watch you save for when your comfort snack goes out of stock and you want a distraction spersed with songs and cute onscreen chemistry. The plot follows a drunken night in Las Vegas when Rahul, a young architect, is accidentally married to Riana. Both mutually decide to annul the marriage, but fate steps in.

Based on the novel of Chetan Bhagat, about his marriage; the story follows a Punjabi guy and a Tamil girl in IIT, navigating college, falling in love and grappling with the differences in their families as they hold onto each other to tie the knot. With epic dance numbers and songs that are present in every grief filled Spotify playlist, this movie is a wholesome dose of culture and reality checks packaged into a movie worth rewatching.
