Travelling has a way of inducing a strong sense of self. Whether it's travelling distances to meet your friends, travelling with them or simply travelling solo. Ever since the global pandemic has gripped the world, this seems like that one habit we unhappily had to let go of. However, that doesn't mean you can't virtually go back to all those places you've been to or always wanted to go to.

So if you're spending winters at home, get your bowl of popcorn (yes, we picked by film genre also!) or binge on these healthy snacks, and watch these travel movies which are sure to take you on a profound journey of self-awareness.

Into The Wild (2007)

Into The Wild

Recommended to me by my sister and a friend, this brilliant adaption of the book, "Into The Wild" written by Jon Krakauer, portrays the journey of Christopher McCandless through the surreal wilderness of Alaska. A movie that talks about how he perished in a rustic (now iconic) bus and how he rejects materialism and living his life by a rulebook. Into The Wild makes you want to self-introspect life and in a way urges you to go out of your way to experience new things. The film also beautifully captures the glories of nature.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (2013)

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty

This is a film adaptation of James Thurber's short story by the same name, back in 1947. The movie revolves around the lead character Walter Mitty, played exceptionally by Ben Stiller, and how he travels across countries to retrieve a lost photo taken by a prominent photographer. With instances of hilarity in between, they take you through the phenomenal landscapes of Greenland, Iceland, and the majestic Himalayas. Unfortunately, the movie is not yet available on major streaming platforms but this is of the most acclaimed movies and had to be included. Rent this one out and we assure you, it won't be disappointing.

The Tourist (2010)

The Tourist

Set in the charming lanes of downtown Paris and later through the calming waters of Venice, The Tourist is a romantic thriller featuring two highly celebrated actors, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. While many criticised the film for being slow, it's very well shot and gripping at times, nonetheless. If you're in the mood for something light and wish to appreciate the serenity of Venice, do give it a shot.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Loosely translated to, "You Only Live Once", ZNMD is one of the new-age travel movies of the Indian cinema. The plot revolves around three childhood friends who reunite after years when one of them decides to tie the knot. The three boys take a bachelor's trip to Spain where underlying issues from the past resurface and how they undergo a process of self-exploration together. The film is bound to make you cry, laugh, introspect - all in under three hours.

Mission: Impossible (1996)

Mission: Impossible

I think we can all agree with the fact that the first Mission: Impossible movie is the best, still. And Agent Ethan Hunt here needs no introduction. The first act of the film is shot in Prague which was a rarety in movies back then. The movie was shot in many parts of the UK and US thereafter. The following parts are shot in other parts of the globe including China, Italy, Germany and many more.

Due Date (2010)

Due Date

This movie is a hysterical account of a soon-to-be father who is forced into taking a road-trip with a man who wishes to scatter the last remains of his father in the Grand Canyon before moving to LA to become an actor. The story shows their rather hilarious road-trip and the plenty of catastrophes that happen when they're on the move. A classic Zach Galifianakis comedy film, watch this for a great laugh.

Murder On The Orient Express (2017)

Murder On The Orient Express

This one takes me back to the days I used to spend my entire summers just reading Agatha Christie's novels. This movie is based on one of the detective novels by her which features the famous fictional character, Hercule Poirot who solves a murder that happens to take place on a train journey. Murder On The Orient Express exhibits a three-day journey across the snow-clad mountains. While most of the movie is shot in Europe there are several scenes from New Zealand, mountainous regions on the borders of France and Switzerland. The movie is quite intriguing to watch with a lot of interesting characters.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

Dil Chahta Hai

Moving a little bit closer to home, Goa has always been associated with cancelled plans and trippy beach-side parties with EDM playing in the background. But there's so much more to Goa than just that. Coming back to the movie, Dil Chahta Hai single-handedly made Goa that one travel destination for all the youngsters of the country. A story of three friends and their journey on how they changed from being inseparable to becoming distant when something goes wrong. However brief (and entertaining) their road-trip to Goa might have been, it makes us want to visit that place for its serenity and gorgeous beaches.

Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can

The movie reloves around an FBI agent played by Tom Hanks and Leo posing as a fraudster, who find themselves in a rather brilliantly captured cat and mouse chase. Based on a true story about an ex-con Frank Abagnale Jr., the movie will fly you around Miami, Madrid, Montrichard and a few other places.
