There’s never a moment when the internet (and the nation) is not obsessing over Virat Kohli. It’s either his most recent match, in this case, the T20 World Cup victory, which made people worship and celebrate him (and the rest of the team) and rightly so. Or it is the fact that he is ALWAYS giving relationship goals, making women share his reels with their boyfriends with an eye roll. People look up to him for his fitness regime, his cheat meals, his not-so-cheat meals, and everything else.

We just came across a tour of his vacation home in Alibaug, and we’re not going to lie, we are obsessed! It’s the kind of vacation home everyone who dares to dream will dream of. It has a clean, white theme throughout, biophilic elements, and is dotted generously with natural decor all over. It’s very spacious and is complete with a pool and an outdoor dining area, making us imagine blissful evenings with our closest friends and family. The home has a glaringly luxurious feel, and we are going to dissect all the aesthetics of his vacation home so you can recreate it in your home, or perhaps your holiday home one day!

Biophilic Principles

Biophilic is a design principle derived from the age-old term 'biophilia,' which simply means a person’s innate need to be close to nature. We identify it as the bliss we feel as soon as we reach a hill station, when we drive through thick vegetation, or when we let a waterfall spray us in the face. Even walking in a park can spark a sense of contentment, and it is this inherent biophilia in our human DNA that gives birth to the term biophilic design.

Merriam-Webster dictionary describes the term ‘biophilic’ as “of, relating to, or characterised by biophilia: relating to, showing, or being the human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature.” What this translates to, in simple terms, as a design for your home will be large, open and well-ventilated spaces, lots and lots of greenery, use of natural materials, earthy colours, and natural patterns and shapes.

A biophilic design is said to foster creativity and reduce stress levels. Virat Kohli’s vacation home is the epitome of this form of design. It checks all the boxes. The massive living room has a double-height ceiling to bring in more natural light, there are far too many plants to count, and the cushions have patterns and motifs of plants, leaves, flowers, and animals.

Clean And White

We've come far now from the belief of not wanting white or neutral colours for our home. As neutral colours become huge home trends, falling right into the categories of clean and old-money aesthetics, people have come to use white increasingly in their homes. We have previously done detailed guides on building white bedrooms and white living rooms as well. Virat Kohli's holiday home in Alibaug smacks you in the face with the warmth of white. It is clean, with all the furnishings and furniture following the theme. The only exception is the Italian white marble wall, which, with its tinge of cream and green, follows the general biophilic pattern.

Lot Of Natural Light

In the AD video, Virat Kohli stressed his love for natural light. He mentions that his favourite part about the living room is the double-height cut-out ceilings that allow a lot of natural light to percolate in. He says the more natural light, the better the energy in the home. There’s a full window wall on one side, with translucent, white curtains that allow plenty of sunlight. Cover me in sunshine, baby!

Natural Decor

Natural decor will never go out of style and has continued to be one of the biggest home trends for a couple of years now. Virat Kohli’s Alibaug home has many natural and sustainable elements, right from the baskets that are used as decor for the centre table in the living room to the rattan chairs that are a part of the huge dining table, an area which is much loved by the cricketer. He mentions that he loves having meals together as a family and that only reinforces our belief of him being a man written by women when it comes to love and relationships. Anyway, coming back to the topic, there is also the use of other natural materials, such as pristine stones, exotic Italian marbles, raw travertines, and Turkish limestones, throughout the house.

Minimalistic

Perhaps the most glaring part about this home is that not a lot is happening, but whatever's happening, it is done well. What we mean is that it is a very minimal home with very few elements, but each element makes perfect sense and brings the home together. Take the plain white/cream walls, the white drapes in the living room, and the very subtle decor. Everything is screaming minimal as much as it is screaming luxury. Even the powder room at Virat Kohli's home is as subtle as it can be —it's not cluttered, which gives centre stage to the pink onyx marble.

Modern Chic And Contemporary

Virat Kohli's home takes a different approach as soon as you enter the bedroom, which then looks like you've now entered a luxurious hotel room. The colour theme shifts from white to different shades of grey, with dark grey drapes, matching bed linen and slightly lighter but still grey walls. It still has a warm and homely feel to it with the plush cushions and the grey knitted rug. All in all, the minimal, grey bedroom has a very contemporary and modern chic vibe to it that we love.

Coastal Vibes

This holiday home combines 'California's nonchalance' and the 'Konkan coast's romantic minimalism'. The decor is specked with wooden products that add warmth and give contrast to the otherwise cool look and feel. There's a rare Balinese sukabumi stone-clad temperature-controlled pool and jacuzzi and a fully customised kitchen by German brand Poggenpohl.
