Ten-second takeaway
Two whole days of short films, engaging discussions and inspiration - that's what the third edition of 9180 Shortfest has in store for you.
Keeping it short
Started in 2013 as part of Kalotsava {a tribute to veteran theatreperson and film critic, AS Murthy}, the 9180 Shortfest is back with its third edition. Named after Bangalore's short dialling code, the festival is organised and run by Sweet Spot Media {a film and mixed media outfit}. Designed for filmmakers and cine enthusiasts, the two-day event is an interesting melange of short films and discussions.
Films across borders
The festival competition section includes entries from filmmakers which are judged by a jury of experts from the field. Last year's entries included one from Sweden {Stories From The Wars by Freja Andersson} which went on to win the Jury Special Mention and was screened at several international festivals. This time around, they have already received entries from over 20 countries, including Iran, USA, Italy, Russia and Denmark. But that's not all - the event also has a curated non-competition section. Screening a selection of path-breaking shorts from around the world and even featuring interviews with directors of these films, this category would be one to look out for, we think.
Taking it online
Partnering with Fliqvine {an online community of indie filmmakers and fans}, the third edition of the festival hopes to gain a wider, global audience. Apart from being able to pay and watch the shorts which are part of the festival, the online members will also get to nominate their favourite film for the Online Festival Best Film - Audience Choice Award.
Last date for entries from interested participants is December 10.
