Ten-Second Takeaway

Remembering the popular yesteryear actress, Smita Patil, Bhumika: Celebrating Smita Patil is a three-day festival that includes movie screenings and panel discussions.

In Retrospective

Considered one of the finest actors of her time, Smita Patil is known as much for her powerful portrayals as for pushing the boundaries of what was traditionally regarded as feminine roles. Celebrating the life and work of the late artiste who would have turned 60 this year, Pickle Jar {a city-based community} has organised a three-day festival. With screenings of some of her best movies {includes Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam films} and exclusive panel discussions lined up for the weekend {across different venues}, this one's not to be missed, especially if you are an ardent fan of the National Award winning actor.

Fest Highlights

While the event will have an opening ceremony by acclaimed director, Shyam Benegal, keep an eye out for the screening of Teevra Madhyam, a special documentary on Smita Patil {directed by Benegal}. From her noted Hindi films like Bhumika and Arth to regional language movies like Anveshane {Kannada} and Chidambaram {Malayalam}, the event will have more than nine screenings over three days. Oh, and don't forget to make way to the panel discussions. While actor and Smita Patil's son, Prateik will talk about the parallel cinema movement, director/producer, Mahesh Bhatt will be in conversation with journalist, Baradwaj Rangan on women in Indian cinema. And, if you're left longing for further insight into the actor's life, her biography, Smita Patil - A Brief Incandescence by Maithili Rao {to be launched at the event} or the exhibition with rare photographs of {and shot by} the yesteryear actor might just be what you need.
