Over 80 Indo-Chinese Dishes & Two Floors Of Dining: Have You Tried The City’s Longest Buffet?

Aakanksha posted on 08 July

Ten-Second Takeaway

With a whopping 80 dishes, two floors of dining space and with the title of the City’s Longest Buffet, there’s plenty to love about Chutney Chang. And it costs only INR 620 for lunch on weekdays {dinner and weekend prices, differ}.

Food, Glorious Food

Sure there’s those fancy fine dining restaurants and nouvelle cuisine places that are worth of Instagram. But let’s face it. There is nothing that is as fulfilling and satisfying as Indian and Chinese food; especially if there’s unlimited quantities of it! That’s exactly why we like Chutney Chang so much. And at that to at INR 620 upwards. So much win, right?

The menu is a rotational one, so if you end up there on every day of the week, you’ll have something different each time. Expect of course staples like roti, biryani, salads and noodles — that too, they switch things up a bit. The Indian section is mainly comfort North Indian khana ranging from dal makhani and kadhai vegetables to rich Amritsari chicken and mutton Rogan Josh {my personal favourite}. And that’s just the best sellers. From the live counters you can gorge on kebabs — chicken, mutton and fish. I really like that they try different recipes and incorporate varied ingredients — think pesto chicken kebabs or coconut sheekh. In fact, I invariably pile on the starters with the mains as well. There’s also quintessential dishes such as sarson saag and some paneer creation.

From The Orient

From the Orient expect an authentic version of the cuisine — they have a Chinese chef too. Serious soul food in the form of Gobi Manchurian, Crispy Fish in chilli sauce, vegetable balls in Hunan sauce and even Szechuan fried potatoes. Going by my analysis of folks at the restaurant, their quirky Chinese food is a great hit. I too loved the Cheese Wontons that were crisp on the outside and gooey with molten cheese inside — innovative and addictive.

Form the live counters, expect endless streams of dim sum {veg and non-veg}, kebabs and seafood, to arrive at your table, to be had with their specialty — nine sauces in a customised dish. Chilli, mint, soy or garlic, these sauces are meant to be paired with the starters and dry dishes on the buffet, so you can make your meal, truly your own with some DIY mixing. They also have live pasta, chaat {try the samosa chaat and pani puri}, and grill counters so you can get creative too. A gentle warning though — their dessert section is massive, so leave room for that. You can’t just say no to gulab jamoon with ice cream, can you?

Sweet Deal

The best part is that it’s not just gulab jamoon with ice cream. They go all out with the dessert bar, it almost looks like Candyland. Honey noodles, chocolate wontons, halwas {the moong dal one is yummers}, and cakes in all sorts of colours and flavours, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Unless you’re like me, in which case, you’ll go straight to the Chocolate Fountain with multiple sticks of marshmallows, before making a pitstop at the cotton candy station — it’s like a carnival! Wash this all down with quirky cocktails — my suggestion is the Chutney Mary, a non-alcoholic version of a Bloody Mary. Or keep it healthy and simple with copious amounts of green tea.

Price: Lunch, Monday to Thursday, INR 620, plus taxes, Friday to Sunday, INR 700 plus taxes; Dinner, Monday to Thursday, INR 700 plus taxes, and Friday to Sunday, INR 750 plus taxes.

#LBBTip

Don’t schedule any meetings for a while after this, because you’ll be so happy with your meal, you’ll take some time to recover.
