What Makes It Awesome

What if we told you that there's a silent book-reading community that meets up every weekend at Cubbon Park just to read books? The only questions you should be asking us are when and how do I sign up? Cubbon Reads is a silent-reading community started by Shruti Sah, a marketing professional and home baker, and Harsh Snehanshu, an entrepreneur and start-up founder, and is one of the most happening reading communities in Bengaluru.

What started out as a small group of friends coming together every Saturday to read their favourite tomes at Cubbon Park has grown into this huge community—last we checked they had about 30K+ followers on Instagram and the 20th edition, which this writer attended, saw over 300 readers attend—where people from all around the town park themselves for a couple of hours to read their books. We spotted solo readers, groups of friends, couples, and just about everybody. There's no membership or anything, you just show up at the location (which they have given on their Instagram handle) anytime between 9 AM and 2 PM with your book(s), some snacks, and find yourself a nice spot to spread your mat and read away.

And what we really enjoyed is that everyone was living in that moment with their books (some were even painting and doodling!). Mind you it's a silent reading, so if at all you are coming with your friends and want to chit-chat away, do it, but just remember to not disturb the others.

At the end of the session, there's usually a gathering where you get to meet the other folks (and maybe make friends) and the book stack of all the books that were read that Saturday.

Pro-Tip

They have a few other chapters in the city including Lal Bagh Reads and Whitefield Reads, so be sure to check out their handle for the same.
